Jesus. He really wants to kill the base, I guess.

      They took ‘our’ oil.

So many people voted for him for the no-war thing.

He got a taste of being Supreme Commander with Iran in the summer, and now fancies the feeling of power it brings. Besides, I am sure his good friend and neighbour in the Kremlin gave him a wink and nod to proceed as desired.

Cannot find the post now, I thought I saw @mik wrote recently (today?) that he would still vote for Trump over Harris if the election were to take place today. 🤷

Your propensity to define people based on who they vote for or claim to accept, is gross. But certainly not unique on this board. It's part of the problem, just so you know.

I still would. Harris would have been an unmitigated disaster. far too much of a lightweight for the office. Trump may be overboard in some ways but overall he's trying to get things done, most of which I agree with in principle if not in style.

Neither candidate was what I would have preferred but that was the choice before us. The Rolling Stones said it best - you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need.

I’ve yet to see any mitigation of the disaster that is Trump. It just keeps getting worse in whole new dimensions that the first term didn’t prepare us for.

Take it as a data point to illustrate that some Trump voters will remain Trump voters despite disappointment on the no-war thing.

                                    https://www.nbcnews.com/business/business-news/soldier-charged-over-maduro-raid-bet-rcna341710

Van Dyke “bet a total of approximately $33,034” on the Maduro operation on the prediction market platform Polymarket, federal authorities said. He ultimately made more than $409,000 as a result of the bets placed on the U.S. operation, an unsealed indictment alleges.
Authorities said he “participated in the planning and execution of the U.S. military operation to capture Nicolás Maduro.”
“In total, Van Dyke made approximately 13 bets from Dec. 27, 2025, through the evening of Jan. 26,” the Justice Department said.
Van Dyke was criminally charged with “unlawful use of confidential government information for personal gain, theft of nonpublic government information, commodities fraud, wire fraud, and making an unlawful monetary transaction.”

Gee... sure would be a shame if this crime was applied to others in Trump's inner swamp circle.

I’ve never thought too much about the Trump crime family abusing the betting markets just because they’re too lightly traded. A few hundred k is a lot of money for a DoD mid level employee but not worth the Trump’s time. The big trades before presidential moves tend to be in financial or oil markets where you can make 100MM in a few minutes if your dad is President.

Also these trades are easy to investigate - everything is documented. So you know it’s someone with confidence that they won’t be subject to such investigations. That’s a small circle.

I really have no problem with Van Dyke making a couple of bucks on all of this. He's a master sergeant so he wasn't any top brass and the operation could have gone sideways anytime before it was actually executed. We ALL know there was a heavy navy and troop build up before the strike happened just we all knew the price of oil was going to go up before the Iran war started. Van Dyke bet on it while we just posted about it on TNCR.
