When I was porch sitting last night, a cool plop arrived on top of my foot (wearing sandals). I knew immediately it was a FROG!!! Phone flashlight confirmed we have a new frog visiting the porch. It's been years since we had Jürgi with us, and I have wondered if we would have another visitor.
This one will be called Ona, which is supposedly some sort of cousin to some Jürgi somewhere. (And this is why we have Google, folks.)
Ona was heading toward the front edge of the porch, and made the leap to the stone sides of the front steps just like Jürgi used to do. Clearly, this was not the first time Ona visited the porch.
To encourage more visits, I put the electric bug catcher down on the floor of the side porch away from where we have our chairs. Jürgi and his ladies, Emmy and Jade, used to all sit around the bug catcher to catch the bugs before they flew into the catcher. It was like shooting fish in a barrel for the froggos to catch their dinner. Smart and lazy frogs they were, and I expect Ona has heard the tales of the great Jürgi catching piles of white moths, the favorite food of the porch frogs.
All my pet frogs have gone to the great tree in the sky where good froggos can catch all the bugs they want every day, and sit in their pond to poo without it ever making the water skanky. Even Blue and Poppy are gone. They have a lifespan of about 5 years, and those were definitely good years with them.
I welcome the opportunity to have some outdoor froggos again!
Proof that Ona feels right at home already. This froggo is eating plenty!

Love it. Just yesterday I caught a large toad (nearly camouflage with the color of the bark on our maple tree), which the kids loved seeing. I was about to mow the grass and it jumped for safety. Win-win!

This is great. Love to hear it. Your wildlife loves you. Ours constantly assaults our premises.
@Mik Oh, Mik, we have finally gotten tough on the marauders, the deer that love to eat everything in our yard. We fenced in the backyard, and also most of the front yard on one side. They have to be civilised deer now and walk all the way to our front yard if they want to enter. And I am sure they eventually will. Doggone deer ...

I mentioned in the other thread.... bunnies are our nemesis. Cute as hell, but love to chew early growth on hostas, black eyed susans, and lilies. We have a trap and I've caught quite a few. Rabbit stew tonight!

We have a heap of rabbits and toads. Mrs. Phibes has taken to naming the bunnies, so I don't think humane disposal is on the cards. Chipmunks are equally as cute and annoying as bunnies, however our dog caught one a few weeks back, and they've been noticeably more restrained since then.

We have skinks. They are everywhere.

@LuFins-Dad
I have to Google this one.TIL
We have at least two kinds of these critters in Minnesota. I don't think I have ever seen one here. -
We had either a fisher or weasel walk up the drive a couple of weeks ago. Naturally, the dogs went completely bonkers. We see a lot more variety in Rhode Island than we did in Foxboro, as we're right on the edge of a fair amount of countryside.

Really? My experience tells me that Foxboro was absolutely overflowing with weasels a few years back.
