@jon-nyc When Judas committed suicide his place was taken by Matthias. His authenticity always has been doubtful.
Paul is #14, but he never met Jesus in person.
Roman Catholics are inclined to take 12 apostles into account, and add either Matthias or Paul.
The orthodox church officially recognises 70 apostles. -

Thanks. From what I’ve read Paul did the most to spread it, at least to power centers of the time. I don’t think I knew he wasn’t among the original crew.
