Now, what is actually going to happen?

Canada tightens up the border and tariff goes away. Mexico is going to be more interesting...By declaring the cartels terrorist organizations, it means we can drop a SEAL team into the country, if we choose.

Tightens up the border? For what? How many migrants are busted from Canada? How much Fentanyl has been shipped into the US from Canada? The only complaint that I’ve seen about the Canadian border is that it’s too difficult to get in…

If you listen to the administration it seems like the fentanyl stuff, at least with respect to Canada, was necessary as a legal basis for tariffs under Trump’s rebranded NAFTA. But many of his comments seem to indicate a concern about trade deficits if not the very idea of imports, which he considers subsidies.

That’s why I asked the question ‘where are these demands?’

I don’t think any have been made, since that would require some coherent goal in the first place.

Excuse me, it’s not if you [the US] chooses to drop a military strike team into Canada.

Let me remind you that we have exclusive agency on our sovereign territory. If the US wants a criminal or terrorist target on our territory taken out, US law enforcement will work in cooperation with the responsible Canadian law enforcement agency to devise and execute a joint mission under Canadian command and control. If any military force needs to be engaged to meet the mission objective it will be in a Canadian uniform.

At least it’s not from Rebel News.

Anyway the article proves nothing to justify Trump’s sanctions and don’t think for a moment that the RCMP have not been working with US law enforcement agencies to deal with this issue long before this article was published.

Trump has been all over the board on this since he started on us in November. Without going into detail we have bent backwards to the tune of $1. 8 billion in increased border security to appease his concerns. Same with Defence spending commitments. All of which have been and continue to be coordinated with not only the responsible US agencies but directly with his appointees to cabinet. Then Trump moves the goal posts to the trade deficit. Now yesterday it’s back again to border security.

We have no issue with his security fears and concerns. Nor do we have issue with trade and investment irritants and issues.
All require diplomacy, dialogue and cooperation and those are the paths we have consistently pursued to address the problems. He has unilaterally rejected all paths to resolution and chose instead to levy unjustified punitive sanctions on not only our economy but our national sovereignty.

There is no transparency whatsoever in Trump’s demands or policy

For all I know Trump is punishing Canada at Putin’s request or order, for its unwavering support of Ukraine.

Spoke to my long time Finnish friend (Best Man at my wedding and oil executive) in Helsinki this morning. He is convinced Putin has kompromat on Trump and uses it at will. Who knows?

                            Canadians boo US National Anthem....

                            https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c3348gk8my0o

A few hours after President Donald Trump announced that he would impose steep tariffs on Canada, hockey fans in the capital Ottawa booed the Star-Spangled Banner during a National Hockey League game against a visiting US team.

On Sunday, during a National Basketball Association game between the Toronto Raptors and the Los Angeles Clippers, it happened again, continuing throughout the song and almost drowning out the 15-year-old's singer's arena performance.

The vocal displeasure from usually respectful fans is a clear sign of Canadians' deep dismay at Trump's move to hit its nearest ally with punitive taxes, which threaten to spark an unprecedented trade war on the North American continent.

The 25% tariffs imposed by Trump on all Canadian imports into the US - with a lower 10% levy on energy - are set to take effect on Tuesday.

And they come as President Trump doubles down on his push - no longer dismissed as a joke - for Canada to join America and become the 51st state.

                            Hearts and minds...

                            I was only joking

We’re asking hockey fans at Oilers games here not to boo or jeer the American anthem.

Instead fans are encouraged to turn their backs to the rink and remain totally silent for the duration of the US anthem.

Then loudly and proudly sing their hearts out in English and French throughout Oh Canada

A diagram from Cato showing just one example of modern auto supply chains and why tariffs get amplified throughout the network.
