@Jolly said in Nick Sandmann is dangerous, says the ACLU:

Absolutely crappy on the part of the ACLU, but probably judgement proof...

I wonder. What this asshat said is slanderous ("dangerous?") without any proof. I wonder...

A court just ruled that Palin's slander lawsuit against the New York Times can proceed, you know.

Actually, I hope so. Our slander and libel laws have become too lax, in regards to public figures.

It's not the ACLU, it's Samuel Crankshaw's personal opinion, see the Facebook post by Crankshaw where he prefaced his post with these words:

NOTE: These are my personal views that I am expressing on my personal Facebook page on my personal time. They do not necessarily reflect the views of my current or past employers. I have a First Amendment right to express my views just as Nick Sandmann has a First Amendment right to express his. I will continue to express my views on my personal time.

You're right. Thread title edited to reflect this.

Hopefully the ACLU will discipline this staffer who is publicly saying hateful things about teenagers. I mean, we've come to that, haven't we?

            That's Sandmann's lawyer salivating - again.

After appearing at the Republican Convention, I think it could be argued the young man is now a public figure.

I was just going to make that point. WaPo tired to argue that he was a public figure but that logic was a bit circular - the act of slandering the non-public figure made him a public figure.

But after the brouhaha he was almost certainly a public figure. And definitely so after the convention.

            Only non-witches get due process.

"While the statement is from someone who expressly identifies as an ACLU staffer on social media, it is not a statement from the group. Yet, the sentiment reflects the growing concern over the new direction of the ACLU and the shift away from neutrality in the support of free speech rights."

How many people have been fired from their employer for doing just this? The defense doesn’t pass the sniff test to inoculate his employer although it likely passes the legal test.

Which is what I said a few posts up, about the ACLU disciplining this guy. Actually, people have been fired for non-specific things they've said. This asshat calls out an individual.

Nah, this is small potato compared to Pompeo trying to get around the Hatch Act while speaking at the RNC by claiming that he spoke there as an individual rather than as an agent of the State Department. If Pompeo's claim passed the sniff test for you, you should have no issue with this one.

                              Sandmann responds:

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

Personally, if I was a university administrator, I'd jerk a knot in a professor's tail...

Wonder if the proffs are monitoring Mr. Hogg at Harvard?

I can’t tell if that professor has a tail. One school page refers to the professor as he, the next as she.

Good for him. I will reiterate these people should be very careful about defaming Sandman.

Cancel culture's not yet had to deal with that. This is the first serious step back they've had to take.

In his case it has already been established that he is only a public figure because he was defamed. Now they are trying to deny him his rights and possibly create a dangerous environment for him, solely based on his views. If that is not the basis for a civil rights suit I don't know what is.
