Which is fine.
Sink the sacrificial lamb and let the rest through. Or recess appoint him, let him chop heads and then let him go.
Take a hard look at the guy Trump wants for deputy director.

House Speaker Mike Johnson said on Friday that he does not think a House Ethics Committee report on allegations related to Matt Gaetz should be released and is “going to strongly request that the Ethics Committee not issue the report.”

So the best remaining explanation for the nomination is that it was to provide cover for his stepping down as a representative.
I mean, that's the best explanation that admits to any strategy to it. The other explanation, which may be occam's razor, is that Trump was unaware of the impossibility of confirmation, and nominated whoever he felt like.

As good an explanation as I have seen. That and the distraction factor - "Hey! Look over there! (not here)"

In any case, it's clear that Gaetz saw the opportunity to step down with some cover, and took it. Whether it was part of a plan, who knows.

Didn't they (Trump, Gaetz, et al) board a plane without an AG nominee and by the time they landed they had decided to go with Gaetz? Seems it might just be occam's razor...aka a rushed decision made over a Big Mac.

Sadly RFK and Holder were not available for comment.
The check's presumably in the mail. I'm not sure I'd use the term 'balanced' to describe RFK.

By the way, Gaetz’s resignation was from the 118th Congress. He was elected to the 119th?
Think he’ll be enough of an a-hole pursue this?

I think he's afraid of that ethics report coming out. But we'll see.

True. However, if he doesn’t try to see himself in the 119th, Congress, it is really a moot point isn’t it?
On the other hand, I could see him being appointed to a non-confirmation dependent position.

Yeah. Some sort of white house advisor.

At any rate, one down, at least three more to go.

Gaetz looks too much like a rather dodgy Star Trek space alien to make a credible AG. Good thing he stepped aside.
