That's bad. Dollar General is normally not very close to big box retailers.

The discount store operator and rival Dollar Tree have been losing budget-conscious shoppers to Walmart, Target and China-based e-commerce platform Temu, which offer low-priced home goods, apparel and seasonal items. Walmart and Target each raised their full-year profit forecasts earlier this month.

To take the "glass half full" approach, a better economy is causing shoppers to "move up" from Dollar General to Walmart and Target. 🙂

        Darling, you're full of it.

There is a reason Dollar General has done well in rural communities , especially poor ones.

Think some more and get back to me.

Dollar General’s core customer base, which contributes about 60% of overall sales, comprises households earning less than $35,000 annually.

“While middle and higher income households are seeking value as well, they don’t claim to feel the same level of pressure as low-income households, as customers have felt more pressure on their spending,” CEO Todd Vasos said on a post-earnings call.

I think Ollie's is the leader in that market right now.

Told ya'll to buy some TJX. Discounted clothes (TJ Maxx, Marshall's, etc...) from excess inventory and/or inflation-driven consumers. Been steadily going up for a while, and about 200% up since the pandemic dip when I told ya to BUY BUY BUY!

So you if you timed TJX pandemic dip perfectly, you'd have had a triple, marginally better than a perfectly timed buy of AAPL.

My AAPL has done just fine. Buy good stocks and hold them. Timing the market is not for the average investor.

Interesting… Walmart was up last time they reported.
