... Amazon is planning to sell a paid subscription for an artificial intelligence-revamped version of Alexa that could cost as much as $10 a month.

Among features of the subscription Alexa, expected in October, are recipe suggestions based on your family’s dietary restrictions and AI summaries of the news. ...

More discussion in the first article on what most people use (or not use) AI for, and whether people will be willing to shell out for AI subscriptions.

I think that’ll be the way of these AI models. Basic for free, Premium w/ a subscription. ChatGPT does it that way already.

My gut reaction is that is absolutely something I do not need, and makes me want less of Alexa, even.

I'm sure I could make our house really "smart" if we want, but we use our Alexa (and Google) mini devices 99% of the time to play music, usually background songs while we eat dinner as a family, sometimes for the kids to have a dance party. And 1% of the time we use it to ask questions, such as how many days until christmas, or what does a unicorn sound like.

As far as Siri goes, my needs are pretty simple as well - play this music, what's the temperature outside, set a timer, adjust the lighting.

@George-K @89th I am the same way for Siri.

(But I do pay for ChatGPT. 😬 )
