You think so? It has made me more likely to vote the other way. The GOP had a real primary but lived with the result. The cynicism and corruption of the Democrat party is blindingly obvious.
Yeah I do think it's been perfect timing. Kamala is riding a short-term wave of enthusiasm, energy, youth, money, and a positive message... it'll last only 3-6 months, but just long enough to get her the win in November. I haven't paid attention but I'm sure they're using the Obama playbook (venerable images, "yes she can" slogans, pictures of everyone looking optimistically into the sunset talking about hope for the future...)
I'm not voting democrat, but the energy/positive message is on their side right now. Trump peaked after the bullet whizzed by his year (back when he was against Biden). Now Trump is the side of old man, old message, old insults, he's a convicted felon (like it or not) and his running mate was a bad pick (I think @LuFins-Dad called that one right away).
I think it's too soon to say how this will play out. Trump could easily gain some initiative before November. I do think he's a shitty candidate, but that doesn't mean he'll lose.

Very true. My predictions have been very bad the last few years so it's probably wise to bet against me at this point!

Events can and do change elections.
What would have been the outcome the week after the assassination attempt?

Yes, but does it really matter whether somebody regrets their vote 2 weeks before the election, or for that matter 2 weeks after?
As long as everybody has the same opportunity, then it's a fair election.

As soon as the convention is over, the honeymoon is over. I’ve already seen several mainstream media outlets starting to complain about the lack of press conferences and interviews. She simply cannot go from August to October without some media interaction… She is sitting at her peak. She cannot go higher and has nowhere to go but down. The only chance she has is maintaining the enthusiasm for 12 weeks. That is unlikely.

I think Youngkin would have been a better pick, but Vance is not bad.
Have you heard him interviewed? The guy is smart and can think on his feet.
And nobody has an equal to his backstory.

If you have a 60-day voting window, does everyone have the same opportunity?
Of course they do. Nobody's being forced to vote at any given time, and everybody gets to vote once.
I don't really understand the obsession with this issue. If there is voter fraud, then deal with it, but having a voting window doesn't discriminate against anybody. People are free to make mistakes, and regret them at their leisure.

@Mik said in "Hide the Decline":
A 60 day window is too long IMO. Two weeks should be plenty.
Yes, you've got a point. The entire British election campaign took less time than that.
Maybe that's worth a look if you want to save some money....

OK, on second thought, fuck that.

I agree. This issue does not favor one party vs. the other party.
Kind of like a marathon race where the weather is really bad, and a racer complains about the weather. If he was only one running, okay. But everybody is competing in the same conditions,

If more Democrat vote early, so what? The choice is open to Republics also.
Look back to 2016. The FBI released a statement on Sec. Clinton about reopening the investigation of her. This happened a week(?) before the election. Some people say that this turned the election in favor of President Trump.
It is an equal footing for both sides. If I buy a plane ticket and the price goes up in the next week, my friend may complain. But, the price could also go down. and I would be mad. It is what it is. We both have equal freedom to buy plane tickets (or vote) within the available period.
I just don't see this being an issue.

Are you familiar with ZuckBucks? Or Biden's Executive Order 14019? Are you aware that those huge sums of money are spent in primarily Democrat majority districts? Are you aware that the Dems spend huge sums of campaign money in those districts harvesting mail-in ballots (where legal)?
You see nothing wrong in this?

Is there something to stop President Trump from spending some of his billions and billions of dollars doing the same thing?
I may not agree with it, but if the rules are the same for both sides, then it is what it is. Massive spending by rich individuals or companies is certainly not a good thing. What did President Trump do during his first term to stop this?
