So, when prices (and presumably profits) go up, wages will too.

    Right?

Yes they are. It used to show until they got too much competition locally. If I go there I like to pick a chuck roast and have it ground, I won’t buy their prepackaged stuff, and more often than not I buy from local farms.

One afternoon I went there and asked to have it ground and the guy said he just washed the grinder. I. Don’t. Care. You work the Service Meats counter.

      Nowadays they are better.

I worked on car rental systems that changed thousands of rental prices every day.

They changed based on supply and demand.

Supply and demand changed based on weather, special events, the competition changing prices and several other factors.

I’m sure that Kroger means well with the dynamic pricing, but the optics are very bad. They need to market it as dynamic discounting, not dynamic pricing.

If they set the max at MSRP, then announced that the dynamic pricing could only go down, and never up and above retail… That rather than having discounts based on selling your data loyalty programs, discounts were applied based on volume, purchasing power, and more, then it might possibly work. I’m sure that’s the intent, but the story is already ahead of them.

So someone could pick up there items showing one price, but by the time they're done shopping the price could have changed?? Yeesh.

Uh huh. For someone like me who uses pickup, I may have a cart going for two or three days as I add things. You don’t get charged until pickup time. You already have to pay attention to sale and coupon dates. This would be a nightmare.

I have left things in the Amazon cart for a few days and the price might change before checkout.

I have an Amazon subscription for coffee, they send a box of coffee every couple months. The price changes, up and down.

But, I agree that super market prices should be static from shelf to checkout.

Price gauging, as she puts it?
