So he's saying that those of who don't get tips are doing a shitty job which is why we're being taxed?

      Fuck him.

      I was only joking

@Doctor-Phibes I agree. Just because part of your pay is "under that table" should not exempt you from taxes.

I dont think this will get a lot of support. Just another example of people trying to kiss President Trumps shoes.

It will get support from people who benefit from it. It's a vote-grab.

It's kind of funny, they're reducing taxes for the less well-off, but using the tips as an excuse. I'd actually support reducing taxes at the low end across the board, but let's be honest, it's not because they're doing a great job.

And somebody else is going to have to pay for this. Presumably it's all the lazy-ass middle class people who do a shitty job.

Why introduce the bill now? It's a vote grab and one Trump could run on if Cruz doesn't watch it get shot-down early? It also will create chaos, imagine how many businesses will shift to a tips-only model? It also makes no sense... income is income.

And yes, @Doctor-Phibes your analysis is right. Someone else always pays for it.

It makes as much sense as forgiving student loans and it's exactly the same cynical vote buying move. Smart.

I fail to get too worked up over this. I don't think people who make tips are in much of a tax bracket to begin with. I would put student loan forgiveness in a much more severe category of vote-buying. I don't mind encouraging tip workers to do what they do. I do mind encouraging people to go get their often useless higher educations with the hopes it'll get paid for by everybody else.

@89th beat me to the punch. Can I have my bosses reclassify my commissions as tips?

@Horace is right, too. The cost of the student loans stuff is way higher.

Bonuses are paid out to people who do a good job, just like tips. They're on top of the salary, so they're taxed up the ass. I want my money back now, Ted, rather it being used to pay your family vacations during hurricane season.

I don't think there is such a thing as a tips-only model, unless the tip is mandatory to procure a product or service, which makes it not a tip, at least as defined by this law, presumably.

All these considerations can be addressed in any legislation. The details are beside the point, which is that buying votes with taxpayer money is becoming the norm. Very bad.

Wasn't the republican's thing supposed to be getting the tax code to fit on a post card?

D and R policy is becoming indistinguishable. All about which vibes you like.
