Cruz files bill...

I fail to get too worked up over this. I don't think people who make tips are in much of a tax bracket to begin with. I would put student loan forgiveness in a much more severe category of vote-buying. I don't mind encouraging tip workers to do what they do. I do mind encouraging people to go get their often useless higher educations with the hopes it'll get paid for by everybody else.

Why introduce the bill now? It's a vote grab and one Trump could run on if Cruz doesn't watch it get shot-down early? It also will create chaos, imagine how many businesses will shift to a tips-only model? It also makes no sense... income is income.
And yes, @Doctor-Phibes your analysis is right. Someone else always pays for it.

The service sector: "Let's relabel all income as 'tips'!"
The billions of stock options and performance bonuses for CEOs? Those are just tips for good service.

Bonuses are paid out to people who do a good job, just like tips. They're on top of the salary, so they're taxed up the ass. I want my money back now, Ted, rather it being used to pay your family vacations during hurricane season.

I don't think there is such a thing as a tips-only model, unless the tip is mandatory to procure a product or service, which makes it not a tip, at least as defined by this law, presumably.

Okay, Rockefeller.

Want to buy some votes? Stop taxing Social Security…
-
And increase FICA by .25%
-
All these considerations can be addressed in any legislation. The details are beside the point, which is that buying votes with taxpayer money is becoming the norm. Very bad.

Historically, they have pandered more to campaign donors. Now they've broadened this to include normal people. Where will it end?

I could get behind that.

Don't tell me, Mexico will pay.

Y'all realize we're mostly talking about people who pay little tax?
And the silliness about corporate bonuses being labeled as tips is SAF.

Yeah, these type of things never create loopholes that get abused!

It won't as long as it's successful. It's very smart on his part. Now if he'd go for the no taxing Social Security regardless. Our RMD means 85% of our SS will be taxable. Tax on our taxes.

So, it's a meaningless policy?

I didn't say it was a tip, I said I got it for doing a good job, which is why Ted said he didn't want it taxed.
Of course, the only tip Ted Cruz has ever had was a funny orange colour.
