Social media can be incredibly harmful, I have no problem with this. I fear for when my kids are older and exposed to the internet.

I used to worry about how to protect the boy from the internet. Now I worry about how to protect the internet from the boy.

Apparently this is something different. Not sure what, but different in a good way. Or so we’re led to believe.

Maybe they should ban kids from going to church/mosque/temple until they're old enough to make an educated decision for themselves. Religion rewires the brain, too.

As long as they're Christian, they'll be okay. As for the Jews, those have a shot at being one of the 144,000 preachers from the 12 Tribes.

The Muslims? Convert or die. Eternally.

Like your great grandparents feared exposing their children to radio, your grandparents feared exposure theirs to TV, your parents feted exposure you to video/computer games ... more likely than not the next generation will turn out OK despite exposure to whatever you fear. 🙂

Horrifying. I'm starting to see this up close. There are a couple of very anxious pre-teen girls in my extended family. Very hard to walk them back once they're there. The parents are trying hard.

@Copper I wonder how that breaks out with boys vs girls.

@George-K This is from the same study. Also a super interesting (and depressing) cut:

I guess that Larry would agree that the derogation is well placed

He might also point out that a lack of religion includes a lack of redemption.

I'm actually very sure that social media is a bad thing for teenage girls in particular. I'm just not convinced that legislation is the way to fix it. I'm also rather amused by the lifelong committed conservatives such as desantis who think you can legislate your way out of this.

Banning shit is rarely a good way to persuade kids away from doing it.

Of course, he knows this. He wants votes.

Good points. A more effective approach would be to require all parents to also be on the same social media platforms. The young kids will stop using it immediately!

True, but it makes concerned citizens feel good that they have done something to address a perceived problem.

                                  Banning never works?

Ok, if a 13 year-old has the money, let him get plastered in a bar and buy his smokes from the vending machine.

That's a lot more easily enforceable than social media. Banning people from using software isn't the same thing at all. It's like the age limits on computer games, which are a bit of a joke.

                                        Banning never works?

Ok, if a 13 year-old has the money, let him get plastered in a bar and buy his smokes from the vending machine.

At 13 we didn’t go to the bar but we still managed to get access to beer and buy cigarettes from vending machines with ease. Both were prohibited to 13 year olds.

                                        Elbows up!

That's a lot more easily enforceable than social media. Banning people from using software isn't the same thing at all. It's like the age limits on computer games, which are a bit of a joke.

It's far easier to ban social media, not harder.

Every smartphone has facial recognition. This doesn't account for tablets and computers, but they aren't as mobile or versatile.

                                          Please love yourself.
