Yup. Starred Richard Chamberlain. I never saw it.

I might add it is where I learned a lot of Japanese terms. A lot of that stuck. Not bad for Gaijin.

I should queue the book up.

          Must-see TV. Was on NBC.

Yeah, I know. 1980 was an...interesting time in my life.

            I should revisit it.

Good to know GK, I’ll add this show to watch. Production looks great, love the main actor (Sanada), and I find that portion of history intriguing.

Beyond all expectations. I caught up this afternoon (4 episodes have aired so far).

The sets are amazing, the costumes, the story...

I wish I hadn't watched the first four - it would make a great weekend binge watch. Perhaps I'll wait until it's done and then watch it.

As Jolly said, "Must-see TV." I can't imagine the 1980 one was any better.

Spectacular, and it keeps getting better. One of the things that the show runners did is not "hold your hand" in the exposition of the early parts of the story. Seemingly disconnected stories all come together and you say, "Aha! THAT'S what that was all about!"

It gets better. A LOT better.

At first, I found the names off-putting, and the characters, all with similar haircuts, looked the same to me at first. But, it's sorting itself out.

I looked for the 1980s version with Chamberlain. None of the major streaming services have it.

It was a LONG time ago that I read it, probably 40 years or so, and I found myself remembering those same names because they were so unique.

Ugh. I was 2 episodes in just this week via Disney+ and now all episodes are locked unless you get a Hulu subscription. It’s not the money it’s the annoyance, just flipping a switch and another show adjusts its streaming options.

I have Hulu with no commercials and I had to (supposedly) upgrade to Disney + so we could watch the NBA finals. Then I watched a family guy episode with the boy and it showed me fucking commercials. So I had to go into my account, tell them I wanted to pay them less money per month, so that they would remove the commercials. Fucking idiots.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

                                Ridiculous.

You know what would be a good idea, maybe it already exists, mailing your Blu-ray discs in and a company load them into a virtual library, you get your discs back, pay a one time fee, and you have forever unlimited streaming access to your own collection.

I read the book and watched this the first time with Richard Chamberlin, it may be worth another watch. Probably a much better version than the first time.

Also, Penny Dreadful is on PRIME. I watched it a while ago when I had HBO and I loved it. I'm watching it again and it's just as good.

He’s always repeating his own lines as you watch with him. Pretty annoying. 2/10, would not watch with Richard Chamberlain again.
