Shogun

I think some stories are much, much better done in the mini-series format. Shogun is one of those.
I'd love to see Aubrey-Maturin done that way or possibly The Grail Quest series from Cornwell. Maybe too long for a mini-series, I'd love to see The Corps series produced...If you're not familiar with Killer McCoy, let me introduce you...

What hasn't been done as a mini-series, would you like to see?

Was Shogun a mini-series in the 80s?
Yup. Starred Richard Chamberlain. I never saw it.

Must-see TV. Was on NBC.

Beyond all expectations. I caught up this afternoon (4 episodes have aired so far).
The sets are amazing, the costumes, the story...
I wish I hadn't watched the first four - it would make a great weekend binge watch. Perhaps I'll wait until it's done and then watch it.
As Jolly said, "Must-see TV." I can't imagine the 1980 one was any better.
Spectacular, and it keeps getting better. One of the things that the show runners did is not "hold your hand" in the exposition of the early parts of the story. Seemingly disconnected stories all come together and you say, "Aha! THAT'S what that was all about!"

Watching the first episode now. Very good.
It gets better. A LOT better.
At first, I found the names off-putting, and the characters, all with similar haircuts, looked the same to me at first. But, it's sorting itself out.
I looked for the 1980s version with Chamberlain. None of the major streaming services have it.

The Critical Drinker loved it.
