One thing government knows how to do is create shortages.

Also in Iowa, Caitlin Clark topped Pete Marcowitz NCAA record for points scored. We were listening in the car.

          Four years vs. three.

And she has a three-point line.

Sure but it seems like ‘most points’ and ‘most average points per year’ are two different records.

A traveling nurse could be paid no more than 150 percent of the statewide average wage being paid to full-time healthcare staff who provide nursing services. The bill is a priority for House Republicans, who contend temp agencies are reaping too much of the extra money the legislature has provided nursing homes.

My God, they sound like Democrats.

Let's see how that holds up in court.

Travelers are taking a heavy toll on a business where personnel costs make up the majority of the budget. When travelers hit an area, the locals quit and join the agencies.

So, the employers have to up salaries and bennies or find a way to increase supply.

And how many thousands of other athletes didn’t beat the record in the same era? It’s still an accomplishment to celebrate, not try to diminish and explain away.

Yup, I get it. One can say a similar thing about the effect Home Depot and Walmart have on a community (RIP local hardware store).

I knew a RN who spent a year (?) in Alaska. Gawd, she made good bank. But, the only way to get to her town was by water or by air. "You can't get there from here..."

Clark has made over 500 three-point shots in her four year career. That's over 500 more points and an extra season to do it in.

Let's change sports briefly...In 1960, pro football saw its first 3000 yard passing season. Two of those QB's played in the initial season of the AFL - Jack Kemp and Tripucka. The other QB who had a 3000 yard season was a Pittsburgh reject who had latched on with the Colts after being cut. The Baltimore QB was Johnny Unitas.

At that point, the NFL was a much more talented league.

Three quarterbacks with 3000 yard seasons...But who was the best quarterback?

Any record in any major sport during the last 20 years should probably have an asterisk on it.

But we learned the lesson with Roger Maris, asterisks don't work.

The fans want records, give them records.

I watched Pete play down at the Cow Palace. I've seen her on tv, not in person. When she starts no-look passes behind her head, making shots from half-court and making lay-ups by dribbling the ball between guy's legs, I'll say she's as good.

See, you should be happy she broke his record! It gives you a chance to evangelize and spread the good word on Pete!

                                      Four years vs. three.

And she has a three-point line.

And how many thousands of other athletes didn’t beat the record in the same era? It’s still an accomplishment to celebrate, not try to diminish and explain away.

Clark has made over 500 three-point shots in her four year career. That's over 500 more points and an extra season to do it in.

So what? She also played Women’s Basketball, a sport that plays with much more defense and lower scoring games. They also played in different eras. There are any number of guys over the past 25 years that were one and done that would have beat the record if they had been required to play at least 3 years.

Different eras, different rules, different factors. Don’t try to diminish the girl’s accomplishment. It doesn’t diminish his…

I watched Pete play down at the Cow Palace. I've seen her on tv, not in person. When she starts no-look passes behind her head, making shots from half-court and making lay-ups by dribbling the ball between guy's legs, I'll say she's as good.

A male athlete today is clearly stronger, faster, etc… over a female athlete today.

But a female athlete from today vs a male athlete from 60 years ago? Conditioning was different, strength training was different, and just general health was very different. A lot of Pete’s competition were heavy smokers and drinkers (to Pete’s credit, he could never abide cigarette smoking, though he did enjoy knocking a few back, but that was in the 80s when he was a pro, not college)…

A boy’s 14-16 AU team could probably beat a WNBA TEAM, but sending that WNBA team back to the 60s? I bet they would beat quite a few of the college teams…
