Just trying to predict the future a bit. Maybe it'll be more than 1%. Kind of sad those who are flushing their money away like that.

@LuFins-Dad said in Trump fine GoFundMe:

As an aside, that 15% tip that Go Fund Me automatically adds (you have to go in and manually change it) is obscene.

I believe the consensus opinion here is that tipping in general is an abomination and should be banned.

Nothing like people donating to a so-called Billionaire to help him afford his legal costs.

I know. Per President Trump's estimate, the fine is probably only 3-5% of his wealth.

Or buy knock-off running shoes spray painted gold for a few thousand dollars.

Oh man the GoFundMe is almost at $900k. Getting close to 00.25%, which of course doesn't even come close to paying much of the interest owed on the amount. Maybe the lady who started the page will just keep all the cash. 🙂

I believe the investigations were started a number of years ago and initiated by investigative journalists with Forbes, WaPo, NY Times, etc. Eventually this led to interest from the NY tax dept and the DA. And yes, if you spend years inflating your worth to make money (via lower interest rates) and then you decide to run for President, that puts your life and history in the spotlight. Aka... FAFO. Not to mention his behavior in 2020 after he lost... but the charges were already underway by then I believe.

                                  Me: No.

As cute as that story is, it sort of misses the point, most of which is not legal but political.

                                  1. Has anyone ever been prosecuted for this crime?
                                  2. The DA ran on an agenda of targeting Trump - whom she claimed was guilty not only of being an (undefined) crook, but of being white.
                                  3. As a matter of right/wrong, is it right that you have to go bankrupt to defend yourself in court? If the stakes were smaller, would it be the right thing to take someone's house if he can't pay the fine while he appeals the judgment?

If I ran for president you wouldn’t find much. Certainly not hundreds of millions of dollars in fraudulent profits. I doubt I’d find anything newsworthy on you either. Don’t attract the spotlight if you’ve done shady shit. If found, even if it was bill clinton in court today, I don’t have a problem with justice being served.

                                          Personally, I think it's unconstitutional.

                                          I guess we'll find out.

@Jolly said in Trump fine GoFundMe:

It's not that everybody does it, it's that AFAIK, nobody has ever been prosecuted just this way under this statute, and NOBODY has received a fine such as this.

I’d imagine there have been countless of similar cases prosecuted for such type of fraud and ill gotten gains. Not sure where to search and find that info, though.
