Regarding Jon's chart, what do you think we (the US) will do about this? What will be the outcome of this upsurge, for us and for the world?
The upsurge being due to the stimulus checks, recipients will get that money back out working in the economy, no? Will that have some sort of effect on what happens?
(This is where I know just enough to ask the questions but get Haywire Brain when I try to figure out the answers.)

It's worth commenting that the chart maker made a choice of axis gridlines in a way to make this look really dramatic.
Also it's not normalized to GDP. If you do that, it doesn't look quite as scary.

Still it's concerning. We were approaching WW2 levels of debt even before the pandemic, when the economy was humming along.
