Scrap the debates

I would be totally against no debates.
This would be the moral equivalent of not releasing tax returns as far as respecting the norms of the process.

Historically speaking that's a pretty recent "norm" particularly in the context of candidates' debates. A quick look shows that releasing taxes began with (cough) Nixon who, in 1974, released records from 1969 through 1972. Ford didn't release his. And since 1977 every president's taxes are audited by IRS.
And, of course, don't forget that the Speaker of the House has refused as well, because "she's not running for President."

Debates predate that by what, 8 years?
Basically the same age

Presidential debates, more (1960?). Wilke challenged FDR in 1940.
Other candidates, much older.

This is a fun topic because stealthily it lets you know whether any given Biden supporter or Trump hater is secretly afraid of what Trump would do to Biden in those debates.

If Biden cannot hold his own in debates he sure as hell can’t handle the presidency.

Trump should come on the stage at the first debate and ask Biden, “Can I call ya sleepy joe?”

He can't think that fast.

Which is better for Mr. Biden?
The possibility that he is impaired?
Or the certainty that he is impaired?

Good chance you’re all being punked by the Biden campaign just trying to lower expectations. Meanwhile he’s experimenting with different doses of adderall and equivalents to see what will make him sharp as hell for three hours when it most counts.

The more cynical might consider this totally not unexpected.

He would tell one grandious lie after another forcing his opponent to either ignore the lie or spend the whole debate debunking the lies. That man sucks the oxygen out of room when he opens his mouth.

Meh. If anything people might be worried about what Biden could do to himself.

Surprised Bill Kristol would trash precedent and tradition. Seems short sighted.

Thank you for rephrasing that in a way that doesn't indicate that Trump is competent at anything. It's important to make sure we cleanse all conversation of such ideas.

Trump can hold his own with Biden when it comes to producing unintelligible word salad. He’s probably better at it in fact.
