DeWine vetos bill that would have banned gender-affirming care for trans youth

There are some decisions that need to be taken away from parents.
-
That's one statement. On others he talked about his real concern, which is how the party supposedly championing individual freedoms can take this decision away from parents.

That sounds like a wonderful principled argument that I theoretically agree with in my slightly libertarian heart. The practical and hard reality is quite different.

If DeWine truly believes in this being a parental responsibility and decision, then why does he keep blocking efforts to revive HB468, which required schools to inform parents of cases where students were self diagnosing Gender Dysphoria, and prevented the schools from socially transitioning students without parental consent and knowledge? Kasich originally vetoed the bill, but DeWine has blocked efforts to bring it back around.

Should Ohio repeal all age related laws regarding Alcohol and consumption? Just make it up to parents?
-
Even well meaning parents are being led astray by these clinics and gender professionals. The whole “Dead daughter or live son” argument is bullshit and has been shown to be so. But parents blindly trust the professionals.

Child abuse is not a decision between parents and their children, and that’s what this is.

As it is, to get to a point where transgender treatment for a minor can proceed, you need three parties to go along: the patient, the parent, the doctor (a state licensed professional); and each is evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
You would rather trust the state to make a blanket decision for all cases as a class, rather than have the individual groups of {patient, parent, doctor} make case-by-case decisions?

Yes.

First of all, given the "trendiness" of this issue these days, parent(s) and patient are hardly unbiased individuals. After all, they're going to the professional because they want to be evaluated for transgender "treatment."
Secondly, that leaves the matter of objectivity to the professional. If you look around, you'll see dozens of stories of "professionals" who recommend "gender-affirming" care after an evaluation that frequently lasts less than half an hour. I wonder how thorough such an evaluation is.

DeWine also stated he'd be looking at options for banning surgery under 18. So let's not pretend the governor is all woke. Far from it.

As it was, in the 1950s Lobotomy treatments proceeded with the agreement of the medical professionals, the patients, and the patients’ families.

Surgeries? The danger with these kids are puberty blockers and socially transitioning. By the time they get to surgery they’ve already been abused.
I get it, you like Dewine and his more moderate policies. In most cases I do, too. But this is a subject that you can’t give an inch on. What is happening to these kids is evil, and to just pass it off to being between a parent and the doctors is just absolving oneself from taking a tough stand on a tough issue. The school districts are absolutely filled with activists pushing this crap down kids throats and it is ruining their lives and relationships.

Interesting, looks like a completely party line vote, but with 2 Republican Senators voting against the override, and 6 Reps that didn’t vote.

That certainly applies to the athletics side of this. My daughter tried to tell me there aren't that many so it's not an issue. It is to the legitimate women who have spent their life training for these events. In any event not many is unacceptable when there should be none. I don't believe transitioning is ever going to be widely accepted as normal.
