As it is, to get to a point where transgender treatment for a minor can proceed, you need three parties to go along: the patient, the parent, the doctor (a state licensed professional); and each is evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

You would rather trust the state to make a blanket decision for all cases as a class, rather than have the individual groups of {patient, parent, doctor} make case-by-case decisions?

First of all, given the "trendiness" of this issue these days, parent(s) and patient are hardly unbiased individuals. After all, they're going to the professional because they want to be evaluated for transgender "treatment."

Secondly, that leaves the matter of objectivity to the professional. If you look around, you'll see dozens of stories of "professionals" who recommend "gender-affirming" care after an evaluation that frequently lasts less than half an hour. I wonder how thorough such an evaluation is.

DeWine also stated he'd be looking at options for banning surgery under 18. So let's not pretend the governor is all woke. Far from it.

As it was, in the 1950s Lobotomy treatments proceeded with the agreement of the medical professionals, the patients, and the patients’ families.

Surgeries? The danger with these kids are puberty blockers and socially transitioning. By the time they get to surgery they’ve already been abused.

I get it, you like Dewine and his more moderate policies. In most cases I do, too. But this is a subject that you can’t give an inch on. What is happening to these kids is evil, and to just pass it off to being between a parent and the doctors is just absolving oneself from taking a tough stand on a tough issue. The school districts are absolutely filled with activists pushing this crap down kids throats and it is ruining their lives and relationships.

Interesting, looks like a completely party line vote, but with 2 Republican Senators voting against the override, and 6 Reps that didn’t vote.

I still think DeWine was mostly right. The bill is just blatantly anti-trans reactionary. The medical and sports participation issues should have been handled separately. The GOP needs to avoid overreaching.

That certainly applies to the athletics side of this. My daughter tried to tell me there aren't that many so it's not an issue. It is to the legitimate women who have spent their life training for these events. In any event not many is unacceptable when there should be none. I don't believe transitioning is ever going to be widely accepted as normal.

It shouldn't be. Most of the stuff today has its roots in mass hysteria and mental illness.

Why is it we think somebody has a disease when they want to cut off their arm, but we're just fine with cutting off their penis.

In a country where some states are taking kids away from their parents if they refuse to allow transition, and in a world where 50 year old perverts are being allowed to change in dressing rooms with teenage girls and compete with them on a teenage girl’s swimming team, if Ohio is going to make error, I would rather it be in this direction.
