Whole Milk is Bad?

Senate Democrats blocked an opportunity to vote this week on legislation allowing schools enrolled in the National School Lunch Program to serve whole milk.
On Thursday, Democrat Chairwoman of the Senate Agriculture Committee Debbie Stabenow refused to allow lawmakers a vote on the “Whole Milk For Healthy Kids Act,” which passed the House Wednesday. The legislation amends the Richard Russell National School Lunch Act to allow schools with federally subsidized lunch programs to offer whole milk alongside low-fat varieties.
“Access to healthy and nutritious whole milk should not be controversial,” said Kansas Republican Sen. Roger Marshall. “I was heartened to see the overwhelming bipartisan support for our bill last night in the House. With this momentum, we thought we had a real opportunity to come together and get a bipartisan win in the Senate to close out the year.”
It remains unclear why the Democrats blocked the measure. When reached for comment Friday, Stabenow’s office referred The Federalist to the senator’s brief remarks on the Senate floor Thursday night.
Stabenow cited incumbent dietary guidelines that broadly recommend a low-fat diet.

There is no hunger in America. Poor nutrition, perhaps, but not true hunger.
Two of the grandkids attend parochial school. I look at their lunch menu. It features a lot of things I used to have for lunch when I was a kid. Things that are no longer served in public school...Mostly because the parochial school still cooks their own meals.
Red beans, sausage and rice. Chicken gumbo. Grilled cheese and tomato soup. Beef stew over rice. Baked chicken. Pork roast and mashed potatoes. Yes, even chicken nuggets, burgers, fries and pizza. But they do try pretty hard to include vegetables and fruit at most meals.
Guess what? A lot of the kids won't eat a lot of the food. It's yucky. No, sugar, it ain't yucky, it's school cafeteria food. Out of a pretty decent cafeteria, as those things go. The kids just aren't hungry enough.
Now, I also keep up with the menu at the public school by the house. A lot more premade, heat-it-up, mass produced food. And teachers tell me the kids don't eat that very well, either.
Our problem isn't a box of whole milk. It's kids that are eating too much of the wrong thing at home and not getting near enough exercise, both at home and at school. They just ain't hungry enough...

Jolly is true. I saw a chart somewhere that the highest rates of fat people in the US are in many of the "poorest" areas of the US.

We have a $33T debt, wars all around that threaten to drag us, mass invasion at the southern border in and our elected representatives are talking about what kind of milk kids are drinking. SMH.
I think we should do a version of the Texas legislature. I hereby propose... for the House and Senate...
- The House and Senate meet once per year, except in times of declared war, an impeachment or an economic depression. They also may meet in Special Session after a Presidential Veto
- ALL bills must be submitted four weeks before Congress is gaveled into session.
- Congress shall meet for a period of 16 weeks. Period.
- All bills not voted on and passed in that 16-week period shall be considered dead. D-E-A-D. If desired, they may be refiled next session. And I mean ALL. Didn't fund the military? Toughsky shitsky. Cut off all Social Security payments? Do better next time.
Just as an imminent hanging can wonderfully concentrate one's mind, being under a hard deadline might cut out some pork and will definitely cut out some games.

Reduced fat milk is better for almost everyone.
Really?

Remember when they told us that eggs cause high cholesterol?

@Mik I've been drinking whole milk all my life, about 3/4 litre a day. My arteries are just fine, my teeth are in good shape, and my vitamine D-level is still all right.
I don't trust 'good health guru's'. They tend to change their minds every ten years. -

If refined carbs are your target of choice, in that same bucket of dietary ideas is the notion that whole milk is better than reduced fat.
I hope your dietary ideas are serving you well.
A fat joke from the adult in the room? Shocking. I'll remember next time you roll over and beg not to be insulted as you lose yet another engagement here.

Read into it what you want. If you believe refined carbs are not a problem in a country with obesity rates at 40% and metabolic syndrome everywhere you look then maybe you should reevaluate rather than criticize.
Of course. "you" as in the American "you". Because I was speaking for America and its general ideas about nutrition, obviously. So when you say "you", clearly you meant "America and its general ideas about nutrition". My mistake, I'm really sorry for straw manning you, jon. You are so smart and honest. It must be difficult to engage here with people who aren't always like that.
But I did not say that refined carbs are not a problem for obesity. I have known they are a problem for many decades now, long before it became common, if still idiotically disputed, knowledge.
