Best version of A Christmas Carol?
-
We've seen 2 so far this month, going for a few more this week. My picks:
For the film nerd - Alastair Sim's. He really brings it in my opinion. Probably the best one as a movie.
Most fun - Muppets. C'mon, how is there even a debate about this.
Best all-rounder - Patrick Stewart's. Pretty darn faithful, wasn't above the source material, and isn't too old that it's become less accessible.
-
1939 Radio Play with Lionel Barrymore and Orson Welles.
-
I've only heard that once and it was forever ago. Need to revisit.
-
Is it the best version? Probably not for everyone else.

No question, the Alistair Sim one. I grew up watching it, and that's the face I see when people say 'Scrooge'
-
The Will Ferrell/Ryan Reynolds musical take on it is surprisingly good.

We grew up hearing the Laurence Olivier version every Christmas Eve. A family tradition. Loved the ghosts on the album cover. I still have the album somewhere around here.

The manuscript, in Dickens's handwriting, is in the Morgan Library here in the city. It goes on display occasionally, I've seen it once. The elder Morgan bought it when his kids were little. He used to read from it to his kids around Christmas time.

Speaking of alternative versions... Anybody remember the Bill Murray spin on the story?
I love that one. Even has Bobcat in it.

If there was any justice in the world, they'd have an Alistair Sim month on Netflix.
