It helps to think in terms of conservatism in the abstract, as a defense of the dominant culture. So, cultural conservatives these days are progressives, as that is the entrenched dominant institutional culture. They are conservative in the sense that they are protective of mainstream ideas and exclusionary against other ideas, and they wield the institutional power to do something about it. The biggest clue is that "free speech", and its advocacy has become a sneer-worthy pre-marginalized tribal identification.

If you want to know what the conservative politics in any western society is, just poll the middle aged women, and find out what they think how they feel.

    Education is extremely important.

I can get down with the idea that today's "conservatives" are actually the liberals who don't know they are anything but liberal, but meanwhile, the ones calling themselves conservatives are playing the same game.

Liberals (conservatives really): orthodox as fuck.
Conservatives (basically conserving the America of the 50s): orthodox as fuck.

It's a very bad time new ideas.

      Please love yourself.

Do you really think that Conservatives want the country to go back to the 50s? Race? Women’s Lib? Acceptance of homosexuals?

I’m a conservative, and the only thing that I would like to see revived from the 50’s is Radio Dramas. Maybe some of the music, too. A lot of great music gets short shrift to the 60’s.

Oh FFS. Yes I have blue hair and think that, give me a break. You know what I meant. If you don't, feel free to replace "50s" with whatever 1-word shorthand you'd prefer for "values, laws, and economic opportunities that were prevalent prior to the introduction of woke shenanigans."

Church attendance was up higher back then. And aren't you the guy always posting things about Loudoun County public schools? You'd rather have today's public school system, really?

I went to public school during the 50s. My recollection is that it was ok.

I didn't live in the 50s but I think an overall return to the pre-60s era where family, faith, and community were prioritized wouldn't be so bad for the country. Since then it seems life has sped up and values have been watered down.

I think it's more the GOP is the party of conservative values. Heck it was the Republicans who freed the slaves and the democrats who were all about segregation until about 50 years ago. Honestly, I'd like the Whig party to come back.
