Hamas attacks Israel

@kluurs said in Hamas attacks Israel:
Just saw a purported Hamas video in which they show several captured Israeli generals and key naval personnel. Fake?
I saw earlier today that it is misinformation. Not fake but not of Hamas or Israelis. The video is of Azeri forces capturing Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh a couple of weeks ago.

Yeah, I've been hearing about that, the Azerbaijan/Armenia problems. Weird time.

My son asked me something I didn't have the answer to, maybe someone here can explain. And I don't want to bother bachophile, he's undoubtedly busier than hell and under a lot of stress.
Aren't all Israeli citizens required to have military training after high school? And, are citizens allowed to have guns in their homes? If so, why don't the people start shooting the Hamas guys in their pickups or those going door-to-door, or just coming down the street waving their weapons and yelling? -

Yes. In fact @bachophile was in the IDF - I'll let him give you the details.
And, are citizens allowed to have guns in their homes?

Thanks, George. Once again, you use this internet thing I've heard so much about!
Does anyone know off the top of their head (or gooduck) what the consequences would be for shooting one of these maniacs from your bedroom window? Kind of a neighborhood watch program. -
The question is to what extent they were taken by surprise.
The element of surprise in warfare cannot be underestimated. Stonewall Jackson was a consummate master of repeatedly using the element of surprise to enable his smaller and weaker forces to rout or defeat a larger and better equipped union forces. Many other examples of such throughout history.
It is difficult enough for trained soldiers to defend against surprise attacks let alone civilians and civilian militias.

Renauda, yes, I see your point. I guess I would try to lay low with my family members, maybe hide if we're home. I would also guess people would have a plan what they would do when this situation occurs. Here, I'd get in my car with family and head north. But really, who is going to attack Oregon? I've only lost so-much sleep over it.

All those towns in the south have sort of internal quasi army self defense units all armed with military weapons. Many of them were simply overwhelmed in numbers. In some places they succeeded in wiping out the marauders but obviously not everywhere. Kibbutz Beeri had 100 members dead. Some were families including children tied up and executed.
There will be no mercy anymore. Gaza will be turned into rubble. And if hezbollah is so inclined, Beirut will also be turned to rubble.
The American aircraft carrier is a message to Assad and Putin on whose side the USA stands. -
Okay. For every Israeli executed, five more buildings go down.
