I remember Larry advocating to simply push them into the sea. This is the first time that seems possible.

I do know one thing...No attack this large was done without knowledge of the Palestinian government in Gaza.

@Jolly not sure...that authority is leaky as a sieve , israeli intelligence is deep inside them

        hamas is much more compartmentalized

if anyone knew, its hezbollah in lebanon, because they have similar operational plans. and if they know, maybe Iran knew.

but if Iran knew, that would be a big intelligence failure. Tehran is also pretty leaky in that respect. Too many Iranians on mossad or CIA payrolls.

How much of this was a U.S. intelligence failure? Wasn't that a big part of our job, help see something this big coming?

The fact that so much points to Iran and the recent revelation that US State had an Iranian asset at high levels (Malley), makes you wonder.

The headline here this morning is the USS Gerald Ford strike group, based here in Norfolk, is headed to aid Israel. They could certainly supply some power. It will be interesting to see how it is used.

Just saw a purported Hamas video in which they show several captured Israeli generals and key naval personnel. Fake?

I saw earlier today that it is misinformation. Not fake but not of Hamas or Israelis. The video is of Azeri forces capturing Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh a couple of weeks ago.

My son asked me something I didn't have the answer to, maybe someone here can explain. And I don't want to bother bachophile, he's undoubtedly busier than hell and under a lot of stress.
Aren't all Israeli citizens required to have military training after high school? And, are citizens allowed to have guns in their homes? If so, why don't the people start shooting the Hamas guys in their pickups or those going door-to-door, or just coming down the street waving their weapons and yelling?

Does anyone know off the top of their head (or gooduck) what the consequences would be for shooting one of these maniacs from your bedroom window? Kind of a neighborhood watch program.

It's an interesting question, to what extent did the civilians fight back, and to what extent were they armed sufficiently to do so.

                                      Education is extremely important.

The question is to what extent they were taken by surprise.

The element of surprise in warfare cannot be underestimated. Stonewall Jackson was a consummate master of repeatedly using the element of surprise to enable his smaller and weaker forces to rout or defeat a larger and better equipped union forces. Many other examples of such throughout history.

It is difficult enough for trained soldiers to defend against surprise attacks let alone civilians and civilian militias.

                                        Elbows up!
