Joe Biden will be the nominee until the Convention. Then he will announce his retirement at the end of the term and the delegates will need to vote on a replacement. As the delegates at the Convention will be Joe’s, they will vote for his recommendation. Former President Obama’s senior adviser David Axelrod on Sunday suggested President Biden drop out of the 2024 presidential race in the wake of a new poll showing the incumbent trailing former President Trump.

“Only @JoeBiden can make this decision,” he continued. “If he continues to run, he will be the nominee of the Democratic Party. What he needs to decide is whether that is wise; whether it’s in HIS best interest or the country’s?”

Well put. Dropping out would be better for the dems but it’s hard for a president to give up the feeling of power.

Although we need to see how these polls endure. He lost 11 pts among Dems in the last month due to strong support for Israel. This war won’t be monopolizing the news 6 months from now or even 3, most likely.

I'm shocked that his support would drag him down. I would have thought his handling of it would be a plus. It has been with me. What does this tell us about the party?

I'm not sure he's as weak as you might think. We've never had an election between a guy so feeble and a guy so hated. Conventional wisdom is of little use here.
