Apparently a Cessna Citation took off from Tennessee, headed to NYC. Once it got to the NYC area, it made a sudden u-turn, flying directly over Washington. F-16s were scrambled, and accompanied the Cessna as it flew southwest. They were unable to make contact with the Cessna, and it looks like it crashed into the mountains in Virginia.

    https://news.yahoo.com/u-officials-no-security-threat-194538733.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly9uZXdzLmdvb2dsZS5jb20v&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAABVBJK784Ojss47IwjCWnNupR9csf6w0rslrtcpabkIB9l7DhtEod7sJjOrBDssAIPkRrgPb9FzQ6kY1MEiUBOf4JIuS6OvVMc9fad2UFBYRycgWo5Ti6bTjc2kSyCBNZbpuCilz9qaldqqiSJhJBCahcc3Bw9lSald1QJSpZ82_

Air National Guard F-16s were deployed from Joint Base Andrews, ABC News reported, citing an unnamed U.S. official. At least one military pilot saw that the Cessna pilot had passed out, ABC reported.

While rare, incidents involving unresponsive pilots are not unprecedented. Golfer Payne Stewart died in 1999 along with four others after the aircraft he was in streaked across thousands of miles with the pilot and passengers unresponsive. The plane eventually crashed in South Dakota with no survivors.

Weird. Looks like it was trying to do a round trip…

The auto pilot probably kicked in when it bypassed its last waypoint and reversed course and then just stayed on a straight heading until fuel ran out. Maybe decompression and everyone was unconscious.
Sounds like a mini version of Malaysia Air.

The plane that crashed was registered to Encore Motors of Melbourne Inc.

John Rumpel, who runs the company, told The New York Times that his daughter, 2-year-old granddaughter, her nanny and the pilot were aboard the plane. They were returning to their home in East Hampton, on Long Island, after visiting his house in North Carolina, he said. A woman who identified herself as Barbara Rumpel, who is listed as the president of the company in Melbourne, Florida, said she had no comment Sunday when reached by a reporter for The Associated Press.

                                  Yeah, I saw that.

However it's unclear if he lost consciousness because of a decompression or a medical event. If the former, there might be some comfort knowing that it happened to all aboard the aircraft. If the latter - how scary.

Also, this particular airplane might not have a FDR or a CVR which would make reconstruction of the accident more difficult.

I haven't seen the military pilots mention anything about the passengers.

I assume they also lost consciousness, if not they probably would have been seen looking out the windows. I don't think they would miss seeing and hearing the F16.
