Imagine if you were hiking or camping nearby.
Imagine if you were a passenger on that plane, and the pilot lost consciousness.
And you're no pilot.
Very NSFW

Flight sim training ftw!

The auto pilot probably kicked in when it bypassed its last waypoint and reversed course and then just stayed on a straight heading until fuel ran out. Maybe decompression and everyone was unconscious.
Sounds like a mini version of Malaysia Air. -

The plane that crashed was registered to Encore Motors of Melbourne Inc.
John Rumpel, who runs the company, told The New York Times that his daughter, 2-year-old granddaughter, her nanny and the pilot were aboard the plane. They were returning to their home in East Hampton, on Long Island, after visiting his house in North Carolina, he said. A woman who identified herself as Barbara Rumpel, who is listed as the president of the company in Melbourne, Florida, said she had no comment Sunday when reached by a reporter for The Associated Press.

What a sad story - hopefully none of them would have known anything about it.

Yeah, I saw that.
However it's unclear if he lost consciousness because of a decompression or a medical event. If the former, there might be some comfort knowing that it happened to all aboard the aircraft. If the latter - how scary.
Also, this particular airplane might not have a FDR or a CVR which would make reconstruction of the accident more difficult.
