After everybody else stops wearing them, and in the presence of undeniable communicable disease risk, mask advocates are welcome to keep wearing masks, forever, and they are also welcome to stratify the rest of society into virtue levels depending on the date at which each individual chooses to stop wearing a mask while shopping.

    Education is extremely important.

The scope of Pandemics is measured in deaths.

And for a number of months, as the pandemic was getting up to speed, the flu was worse.

Then the pandemic caught and passed the flu.

      So what?

I've got better things to do than listen to this.

        Have a nice day.

        I was only joking

It's weird to meet someone, naturally going to shake hands, and then pull back knowing that all of us alive now, will be the last people that shook hands as part of social discourse.

"Grandpa, tell me about that thing where you hold a stranger's hand and pump it up and down. What was wrong with people back then?"

I still shake hands if they are good with it.

Then I scream and douse them with hand sanitizer. Then light the hand sanitizer on fire and shout "Bad touch! Bad touch! Bad touch!"

Let me be clear that I douse my hands in sanitizer and light them on fire, not the other person.

I think I'll start doing that as well.

Why are people having issues with Copper’s and Horace’s points? We are being told to wear masks so we won’t kill your grandmother. OK. We are told that not wearing a mask is immoral because it puts Grandma at greater risk. OK. So the Flu is deadly to Grandma as well and is just as preventable by the same simple step. Why wouldn’t we continue? Are you that immoral and selfish?

We’ve established who/what we are, now we are just haggling over cost.

We all have different goals. Mine is to avoid contracting Covid-19 from some stupid fuck who refuses to wear a mask because it would somehow affect his liberty.

                      What is that?

It is a legit question. If we should wear masks to prevent some covid, why not prevent everything?

                      What is the limit?

I understand that Trump people wear fewer masks and Biden people love masks. cnn and fox made all that clear a long time ago.

                      But the question remains.

If you want to wear a mask at all times, feel free to do so.

What this argument about is certain people here and elsewhere have consistently downplayed the risks of this pandemic, and consistently argued that we should do nothing out of the ordinary, against pretty much all expert advice, and all evidence to the contrary. As the death toll has increased, the only thing that's changed has been the excuses used to justify doing nothing.

And I for one am fucking sick of it. I have zero interest in trying to nail jello to a wall.

That may not be an accurate portrayal of what people here have been "consistently" posting.

There should be room in the discussion for those who raise a few questions to the virtuous noises about saving lives at any cost. But I don't really think you want to have a discussion that allows for that room.

But has the death toll increased? From what I've heard, case numbers are increasing, but deaths are decreasing.

The death rate may have reduced, however I fear that won't last. I'd be more than happy to be proved wrong, but I sure don't want to bet on it.

                                    I was only joking

I visited Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan, years before COVID-19. Even then it was quite common to see people there wore masks. The people there have somehow developed the social norm of wearing masks whenever they were sick with the common flu. I don’t think there was a government mandate for them to wear mask, but there was enough public health education and awareness that the people there generally accept that wearing a mask when one is sick with an illness that can infect others through coughs and sneezes is the right thing to do. This seems rather logical and need not be politicized as we have done here.

Absolutely not the case here. I'm not "safety at any cost." I said it before: for 4th of July weekend, there was a sea of people out and about and after making a few passes in my car, I counted 12 motherfuckers wearing masks out of thousands. That's it. I'm not advocating "safety at any cost," I'm saying it's disgusting how many people in this and other areas are doing absolutely, positively nothing apparent to keep themselves and others safe.

                                        Please love yourself.

Same here, Aqua. Smaller scale -- in my local mom n' pop store. Very few wearing masks, but there seemed to be a lot of respect for the six-foot distancing.

One thing I've noticed. I've visited this store for years, know the staff and etc to nod to. But wearing the mask, I felt a kind of shunning. Not actual shunning, but like I'd turned into a stranger that they didn't particularly want to get to know.
