On average, Hippos kill 500 humans per year. For perspective, Lions kill about 22 humans per year.

Why do Lions gain perspective by killing humans? I imagine that maybe, having finally tasted the ultimate prey and finding the meal rather mundane, they may turn to other life goals. Learning a foreign language?

            Education is extremely important.

Yeah, but that’s generally because people aren’t stupid enough to go smack lions on their noses when trying to escape enclosures…

I know you’re joking but for real hippos are aggressive AF and very territorial.

Nah, lions gain supper. Humans are much slower than most other African game.

They should probably have made Jaws about a giant hippo, rather than a giant Great White - sharks in total only kill about 4 people a year. If nothing else, there'd be comedic potential.

                    I was only joking

Oh no, I know that. The whole “Hippo being the most dangerous African Animal” trivia bit has gotten me more than one free drink among friends…

A problem not only in Africa!

"Some time after 1978, four African hippos were brought to Colombia by Pablo Escobar. Mr. Escobar was a Colombian criminal who became rich by selling illegal drugs."
