New job

New job for my wife, started today, to her surprise. She thought she was going in for a second interview, but they put a job offer on the table in front of her, backdated to yesterday as her start date. It's a private bilingual school for kids "12 months to 12th grade", founded by a Chinese lady and principaled by a French lady. The second language used by the school is French, but the job requirements for the Executive Assistant job list fluency in Chinese. I'm not sure where the Chinese will be used, since the position reports to the French lady and the Chinese owner isn't as involved. The list of job duties on the offer letter was two pages long. The school hasn't opened yet, but it's already chaos. She is driven to do a good job in any given situation, so I'm worried about the toll this will take. But she knows she can quit any time. For her two bosses, the owner and the principal, the business is their life. It'll be important to establish boundaries with bosses who don't have normal work/life priorities. They aren't paying her enough to care as much as they do.

Could be dicey. sounds like Frenchette needs a go between to Chinette.
Hard to envision it lasting, but there’s another job around the corner for her I’m sure.

Is the Chinese owner from Taiwan or from mainland China?
I get the sense that some Chinese schools in the US (e.g. the Confucius Institute) have ties to the CCP and are now under the US government's microscope. But the schools owned/run/funded by Taiwanese are still generally OK in the eyes of the US government.
In any case, congratulations to the Mrs. on her new job.

What languages does your wife speak?
If she is open to working remotely, I know some UX designers in Northern Virginia who might have positions to fill, btw. Even I still work for a Virginia company, I just have to hide my new Minnesota accent when I'm on calls, so that folks don't get jealous of my tropical views outside.

Yes, remote work is the plan. She has a cozy office and everything, with
Ikeahand crafted bookshelves and desk. If you know of any opportunities for an entry-level UX designer, that would be awesome. Right now she has a Google certificate and a portfolio, but no work experience. -

She learned today that her duties include opening the school at 7:20, to allow the teachers in at 7:30, and closing the school at 5:30, to lock up after the last teachers and students leave. I imagine this will often turn into 6:00 or later. I think this job is a no-go. Over 10 hours a day in the office, Monday through Friday, is nonsense for 48k/year.

opening the school at 7:20...and closing the school at 5:30.... I imagine this will often turn into 6:00 or later.
What?

I agree. I assume this is 5 days a week too.
Non-starter, IMO. Close to $19 an hour or so. Pass.

The only reason to do that would be if you absolutely love the job, which is probably not the case.
Mrs. Phibes worked as an administration person at a local Montessori pre-school (where our kids went) for a while, and she really enjoyed it, but not enough in the end for the money they were paying, and she didn't have anything like the long hours your wife is being asked to work.

Though in fairness it's probably ~180 days/yr

I don't think so. At best the hours would relax a little when school was not in session.
