What languages does your wife speak?

If she is open to working remotely, I know some UX designers in Northern Virginia who might have positions to fill, btw. Even I still work for a Virginia company, I just have to hide my new Minnesota accent when I'm on calls, so that folks don't get jealous of my tropical views outside.

Yes, remote work is the plan. She has a cozy office and everything, with Ikea hand crafted bookshelves and desk. If you know of any opportunities for an entry-level UX designer, that would be awesome. Right now she has a Google certificate and a portfolio, but no work experience.

      Education is extremely important.

She learned today that her duties include opening the school at 7:20, to allow the teachers in at 7:30, and closing the school at 5:30, to lock up after the last teachers and students leave. I imagine this will often turn into 6:00 or later. I think this job is a no-go. Over 10 hours a day in the office, Monday through Friday, is nonsense for 48k/year.

          Education is extremely important.

I agree. I assume this is 5 days a week too.

Non-starter, IMO. Close to $19 an hour or so. Pass.

Reassure her that she has a high-earning husband who will support her in not taking any job that does not meet her expectation. Some chicks dig this sort of chivalry.

Better yet tell her there are multiple ways to pay the rent.

                lol j/k

Pro tip: Never tell your wife that. It should be implied

The only reason to do that would be if you absolutely love the job, which is probably not the case.

Mrs. Phibes worked as an administration person at a local Montessori pre-school (where our kids went) for a while, and she really enjoyed it, but not enough in the end for the money they were paying, and she didn't have anything like the long hours your wife is being asked to work.

                  I was only joking

Opening the school at a certain time and closing it 10 hours later might not be a big deal...if she has no responsibilities, or few responsibilities between those hours.

I doubt that's the case, but...

I don't think so. At best the hours would relax a little when school was not in session.
