Ditch the man, keep the policies.
What policies would you like to keep?
I think we've trod this ground so much that only the very stupid or the very trollish would not understand by now
I don't think I've ever accused you of being stupid

Ben Shapiro:
"A few points on "Ron DeSanctimonious":
- Terrible branding.
- Reminding everyone you have no discipline by attacking a top gubernatorial candidate popular with the base two days before an election and a week before launching a comeback campaign is...an interesting strategy."

"Hey everybody, remember me? I'm a totally self-absorbed twat!"

It is not so much no discipline as an inability to view his every utterance as anything other than ultimate power.
It's a brain thing.

I'm not sure DeSantis is directionally sanctimonious anyway, even rhetorically. The Disney stuff is anti-sanctimony. There isn't much sanctimony in the trollish transport of the immigrants.

When President Trump loses the majority of TNCR, it is time to move on. LOL

@Mik said in Trump vs. DeSantis:
I don't think he ever had the majority of TNCR. He was just preferable to the alternatives for many. I did not vote for him in 2016 but was pleased by most of his policies. He was a better president than I thought until the end.
But I don't want him back.This.
Back in 2012, when he first ran for president, I called him a buffoon. I felt that way in 2016, and I didn't vote for him either. The problem with Trump is the buffoonery gets in the way of policy.
-
The Republicans have so many things they could focus on - the economy, debt, inflation, crime, immigration, the list goes on.
If instead they decide to make this election about Donald Trump, then they deserve to lose. By a lot.

Yeah, but Trump will make it about Donald Trump.
Same thing, with the same result.
Damn.
Oh yeah, I forgot, it's been a long time since I made your day. . .
BREXIT!!!

It makes sense for the Dems to make it about him, due to the economy, debt, inflation and so on. They know that if they insult him, he will respond and the whole dialogue becomes about him.
It’s up to the Republicans to break this. Trump sure as hell can’t.

I voted for Trump in 2016. He tried to do what he said he would do, so I voted for him in 2020.
You want the perfect candidate and you'll lie in your deathbed still waiting for that candidate to come along.
I'm pleased with Gorsuch, Barrett and Kavanaugh. Not to mention most of the other 200-some odd appointed judges.
I thought Trump's tax cut was good policy and I think the resulting rising economic tide lifted a lot of boats, particularly in minority communities.
I think Trump got it right on border security and that would have been better on it except for Dems in Congress and their rabid opposition.
I thought the Space Force was the right move, and if done properly will cut down on the office war between the Navy and the Air Force.
I don't agree that Trump screwed up the COVID response. You know what you know when you know it. On that note, I'm willing to overlook some stuff from Biden, particularly early in his Residency.
I find it amazing that Trump's overall Presidency was a success, given the almost total opposition in the media, the absolute whoring out of the FBI and Justice, and the maniacal opposition of the Left.

Be careful or you can be hoisted on the economic petard.
If we go further in the economic dumpster (I think we will) and Trump can generate nostalgia for the booming economy under his watch, anything is possible. Right now, I think he has a shot at the nomination. As January 6 becomes ancient history and more of a nothing burger, the public (except for people who would never vote for Trump anyway) will place a lot less emphasis on that event, than they will on the current events at the time of the primaries and general election.

I’d be curious how you might list, say, the top 5 successes and top 5 failures of his presidential term. No need to put them in order, just list 5 of each.

I agree with that. He pleasantly surprised me. I also don’t think he did badly on Covid. We had a vaccine in nine months. As far as messaging, almost no one got that right.

I think I've given you the major successes, with the exception of prison reform. I don't think he gets nearly enough credit for that. I think thumping ISIS was pretty decent, but I wouldn't put it in the top five. His eradication of a lot of Federal regulations was also an accomplishment.
Failures?
Not killing Obamacare, although John-I-never-met-a-camera-I-didn't-like-McCain sunk that one. But the party let Trump down on that one, too. There should have been a workable bill, ready to go, to replace O-care.
Trump gets blamed for Charlottesville, but that's a media created failing. He never said what the media and Dems attributed to him. I think where he did come up short was his difficulty handling the George Floyd situation. Trump is good at being divisive and shaking things up, he's not as good at being healer-in-chief.
I think Trump failed at getting a major infrastructure bill passed. Again, the devil was in the details, and it politically was shot down by partisan bickering. Trump couldn't get the deal cut.
Lastly, a lot of people talk about the loss of American prestige and call that one of Trump's failures. Maybe so, but it's one I don't give a rat's ass about.
