It would seem the party may be moving beyond him. I think alienating DeSantis was a big mistake.

I'm not sure DeSantis is directionally sanctimonious anyway, even rhetorically. The Disney stuff is anti-sanctimony. There isn't much sanctimony in the trollish transport of the immigrants.

I don't think he ever had the majority of TNCR. He was just preferable to the alternatives for many. I did not vote for him in 2016 but was pleased by most of his policies. He was a better president than I thought until the end.

But I don't want him back.

Back in 2012, when he first ran for president, I called him a buffoon. I felt that way in 2016, and I didn't vote for him either. The problem with Trump is the buffoonery gets in the way of policy.

The Republicans have so many things they could focus on - the economy, debt, inflation, crime, immigration, the list goes on.

I’m sure Trump will do what he can to make it about himself, and of course the Democrats will, mostly through existential threat messaging. But I doubt the Republican Party will be doing much to make it about Trump.

It makes sense for the Dems to make it about him, due to the economy, debt, inflation and so on. They know that if they insult him, he will respond and the whole dialogue becomes about him.

I voted for Trump in 2016. He tried to do what he said he would do, so I voted for him in 2020.

You want the perfect candidate and you'll lie in your deathbed still waiting for that candidate to come along.

I'm pleased with Gorsuch, Barrett and Kavanaugh. Not to mention most of the other 200-some odd appointed judges.

I thought Trump's tax cut was good policy and I think the resulting rising economic tide lifted a lot of boats, particularly in minority communities.

I think Trump got it right on border security and that would have been better on it except for Dems in Congress and their rabid opposition.

I thought the Space Force was the right move, and if done properly will cut down on the office war between the Navy and the Air Force.

I don't agree that Trump screwed up the COVID response. You know what you know when you know it. On that note, I'm willing to overlook some stuff from Biden, particularly early in his Residency.

I find it amazing that Trump's overall Presidency was a success, given the almost total opposition in the media, the absolute whoring out of the FBI and Justice, and the maniacal opposition of the Left.

If instead they decide to make this election about Donald Trump, then they deserve to lose. By a lot.

You meant to say Democrats, right? What else have they spoken about for the last 22 months?

Be careful or you can be hoisted on the economic petard.

If we go further in the economic dumpster (I think we will) and Trump can generate nostalgia for the booming economy under his watch, anything is possible. Right now, I think he has a shot at the nomination. As January 6 becomes ancient history and more of a nothing burger, the public (except for people who would never vote for Trump anyway) will place a lot less emphasis on that event, than they will on the current events at the time of the primaries and general election.

I’d be curious how you might list, say, the top 5 successes and top 5 failures of his presidential term. No need to put them in order, just list 5 of each.

                                        You were warned.

I agree with that. He pleasantly surprised me. I also don’t think he did badly on Covid. We had a vaccine in nine months. As far as messaging, almost no one got that right.
