I'm thinking about getting a toaster oven.

Never had one, so I'm ignorant.

I'd like it for making small frozen pizzas, frozen quiche, and most importantly, making toast. I don't need anything too fancy with lots of options, something that is minimally functional and, most importantly, can MAKE TOAST.

    Any recommendations?

There are toaster oven that do a good job on toast, and then there are other toaster oven that do pretty good as a small oven replacement.

I've never had one that did a great job at both...

Funny you ask this, George. Our oven stopped working 2 days ago (just the oven, the stovetop is fine), so I went out and picked up this bad boy for 60 bucks. (Link below) If you want one that can fit a full pizza, there's a model that is for $120. Anyway, it works well, preheats faster than a normal oven, and so far has made tater tots, cinnamon rolls, and a lasagna...all turned out great. I use the "Turbo" (convection) mode, too.

Although this doesn't answer your key question of making TOAST. Maybe I'll try that tomorrow morning. Rye bread, obv.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Breville toaster. And Jolly is right. Had several, none of them do both well.

@Mik yeah, but that's just a fancy toaster, isn't it?

                I wanna make pizza, etc.

                  Use. Your. Oven.

                  That;s what it's for.

And it is an excellent toaster. Seriously. You can make four regular slices at a time of, if you are like us, very wide sourdough bread.

I never have the need to toast more than 4 slices of bread. Thickness is not a consideration.

Just thinking it might be more efficient to use something smaller.

We've had a Black & Decker, used mostly for toast, and bagels, for probably 20+ years.

So of course it's not exactly like a current model.

                      Something like this for $32

I have a regular four slice toaster. Don't remember the brand.

                            I also have this:

@George-K I have been using the ERO-2008SC since mid-2018. Check it out, I think it can do most of the things you say you want your toaster oven to do. Good luck.

                                    What Mik said.

Use the oven for pizza 🍕.

Get a nice toaster for toast 😋.

                                    This thread is highly amusing.

                                        @George-K A report!

Toast fail. I'm sure it could work if I tried and tuned the process, but in general it took longer than a normal toaster and dried the (rye) bread out. Ugh. Trying to salvage it with Kerrygold butter and some jelly.

If you want good toast, get... a toaster. 🙂
