Hell, Phibes, even a heathen like me has a better chance than Anglicans.

I have fewer issues with Dewey than I did with Larry, and I have quite a few issues with Dewey.

I like @dewey. He was also nice to me, was genuine, and seemed a person who has strong beliefs, which were generally quite opposite from Larry. I did not realize that he and Larry were once good friends.

One of the things that the forum board has done well is allow people to express their opinions. If someone has been wronged by someone, I have no problem with them speaking their thoughts and feelings.

Making accusations, including about the deceased’s belief in his religion? You have no problem with that? That surprises me TG.

It is not that I dont have a problem with it, but I can understand his frustration. Larry said some stuff to me that almost made me delete this forum board, and he said worst things to others. I ultimately figured Larry was just playing a internet character, and that he really was a big teddy bear. Keeping that in my mind, I just moved forward with that thinking. And, in the end, I think I got along "okay" with him.

I wasn't intending a referendum on your feelings about Larry. I was wondering about your feelings about a man of the cloth, a self described divinely touched True Believer, holding a grudge over online arguments, and claiming one of his old adversaries, soon after the man died, didn't believe in the religion they nominally share. That's the part that I was wondering whether you have a problem with.

I dont a problem with it. People react differently, and obviously Dewey had some pretty strong feelings about his interactions with Larry (most of which I probably dont know about). I dont know the Bible well (actually not at all LOL), so I dont know what it says about talking about someone after they die.

Not the way I would have reacted, but again, we are all different. I dont think that Larry cares, and if it helps Dewey move on, then it is good for him.

I have my own thoughts, feelings, and interactions with Larry and what Dewey wrote doesn't change that - either in a positive or negative sense. It also does not change my feeling about Dewey.

And lets be honest, if the situation were reversed, I do not think Larry would have been all lovey-dovey towards Dewey in a memory post.

When Wacki-Iraqi made it known his cancer was back, and he had only a short time left, it was Larry who started a thread, reaching out to bury the hatchet so to speak. Many others (friends and adversaries) joined in as well of course. It was a pretty nice moment for the forum.

So if I had to guess how Larry would have handled Deweys announcement of a terminal illness, or news of his death, I believe it would have been along those lines.

I don't like slagging off recently deceased people at all. People are almost certainly out there hurting, and you've always got to wonder who's reading.

I kind of raised the timing of the post with Dewey, admittedly in a bit of a half-hearted way - other people just ripped into him, which is never going to work on Facebook, you're really just virtue signaling since they're going to block you.

Having said that, I had lots of issues with Larry, but if I'm honest I never really felt like I knew him. I don't know whether the warm-hearted guy who occasionally paid for people's groceries was really him, or whether the guy who boasted about all kinds of stuff was really him. He did sometimes make me laugh like a drain, which is always good. In the old days, lots of people stayed anonymous on the internet, and I think Larry was of that generation. Now, we probably all share way too much about our real life.

                                    So, bye.

                                    Be seeing you

                                    LOL!

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

All this is really pointless blather. I’ve lost my friend and, flaws acknowledged, the place will be less without him.

                                      I agree on the latter.

On the former, I nod while reading Phibes' posts, although I'm sure Dewey expected it (maybe he's lurking here?) when he posted it publicly on FB. I think I made my position on Dewey clear in my earlier posts but to repeat myself (which Larry knows I do quite frequently)... I enjoyed meeting Dewey once, enjoyed his contributions (wish he still participated in TNCR), thought his FB post was crass and of no purpose other than catharsis, and to that end, I hope it brought him some peace.

I dont a problem with it. People react differently, and obviously Dewey had some pretty strong feelings about his interactions with Larry (most of which I probably dont know about). I dont know the Bible well (actually not at all LOL), so I dont know what it says about talking about someone after they die.

It's about making a claim about someone else's belief, recently deceased or otherwise. While I'm sure it's the emotional truth of many that Larry was not a believer in Christianity, for Dewey to make that claim would be against the rules of how he's supposed to comport himself within that same faith. I am sure you have issues with people who don't practice what they preach, but in this case, you also know that Larry was mean, so the rules don't apply to him. That's nice.

For me, a minister is no more or no less perfect than me or anybody else. It appears that Dewey knew Larry much longer and closer than me (and maybe you also). Maybe they had conversations about this subject. :woman-shrugging:

As I said, I probably whould not have reacted the same way in the same situation, but it really does not bother me. Maybe it should, but it doesn't.

As I am not very religious I am sure has some bias on my reaction.

They are in a position to be more hypocritical than anybody else. That hypocrisy is what I'm attempting to examine.

                                          Education is extremely important.
