While she has no choice but to go now, I don’t think she should have ever started this shitshow. The Department of State should be making these visits along with the Chief Executive. Not the Speaker of the House. Foreign Diplomacy is not her job and she does not have the training or the authority to accomplish anything…

Another argument for term levels. Nancy has been unhinged for at least four or five years.

@LuFins-Dad @Mik @Jolly , I do not recall seeing you object when US Senators and House Representatives visited Ukraine or Georgia (Eastern Europe) or Israel or or Japan or Taiwan (Sen. Rick Scott visited Taiwan as recently as July 8th) in the recent past.

What are the key differences that motivate your objection to Pelosi's visit now?

In my (biased) opinion, not going to Taiwan by Rep. Pelosi would have been signaling to mainland China that all they have to do is shout and the US will back down. I am glad she went.

China is the bully of east Asia. You have to stand up to bullies I think.

I'm beginning to think it might have been a good idea. China's response was to fire off a few missiles we already knew they had. Big whoop.

But now that everyone signaled their position let's let this settle back down.

I think it great to see US politicians getting out and seeing and experiencing the world they inhabit.

Wholly agree, Lufin. There is nothing to be gained and everything to be lost.

Agreed, insofar as I have an understanding of China. (I trust your judgment, however.)

But as LuFin said, "While she has no choice but to go now, I don’t think she should have ever started this shitshow."

Just to be clear, this recent one was a separate visit from Rep. Pelosi. So far this summer:

Rep Pelosi + others - early Aug
Sen Markey + others - mid Aug
Gov Ducey (AZ) + others - end Aug
Gov Holcomb (IN) + others - late mid Aug
Rep Murphy + others - early Sept
