@jon-nyc I read an article a few days ago that indicates a surprising number of abortions occur after child 1 was born…

I can see that use case also.
I’m thinking more about the girl who had the abortion in college or grad school and goes on the have kids in her 30s.

LOLGTFO…
"Look, relax everyone! If we remove the filibuster for abortion and voting rights legislation, there's no way this move can backfire on us if and when the GOP wins back a Senate majority!"

The blow dealt by the US Supreme Court limiting access to safe abortions has shone a light on the situation in Australia as protesters take to the streets in solidarity.
Thousands of people have already turned up at marches in Brisbane and Adelaide, and big numbers are expected in Melbourne and Sydney on Saturday.
Supporters are also expected to voice discontent in Perth, Hobart, Wollongong and Rockhampton on Saturday, and in Launceston on Sunday.
'Mind your own uterus', 'abortion is healthcare' and 'no uterus, no opinion' were among the messages written on placards.
The movement has been sparked by the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v Wade that has seen 27 US states move toward either banning or threatening to criminalise abortions.
While much of the attention is on America, there is still work to be done on abortion access at home, contraception and safe abortion providers, MSI Australia says.
'The events taking place in the US are devastating for human rights. Fortunately, we are not at risk of having abortion bans in Australia but we do need increased access and equity to abortion care services,' MSI managing director Jamal Hakim says.
Frontline health worker Cecilia Judge addressed the protestors gathered on the steps of the State Library of Victoria in Melbourne.
'Whenever abortion is presented as a debate anywhere, it can increase the shame, stigma, and for some of the people I work with, the grief of accessing abortion care,' she said.
'Abortion is not a debate, abortion is healthcare, and healthcare is a human right.'
Sex history researcher and TikTok influencer Esme James urged residents to stand together.
Australian laws:
What? It's not consistent across the nation? There are restrictions?
Who'da thunk it?
And Tasmania? OMG!

Ohio :
A 10 years old girl, six weeks and three days pregnant, an abuse victim, denied abortion in Ohio.
That’s Ohio, in the good old USA.

That's good old political hackery and media manipulation.
The Ohio Ban allows for abortions in cases where the mother's health would be severely impacted and at risk. There is no question or doubt that a 10-year-old's health would be severely at risk. This is them trying to use this girl for a political statement.

Is it not a fact that the pregnant 10 year old girl has been denied abortion in Ohio? You arguing “political statement” is not helping that 10 year old, and Ohio remains complicit in subjecting the 10 year old to severe risks.

No, it is not a fact. At least not according to your article or any other article that I've seen about it. The FACT is that the abortion ban does allow abortions in cases where the health of the mother is at risk. The fact is that a 10-year-old's health would be at significant risk. All this required was having a physician sign off on the risk to the mother. There is no doubt that just about any OBGYN in Ohio would have signed off on the pregnancy being a hazard to the child.
Ohio is not complicit in subjecting this girl to risks, the "Abuse Doctor" (they never state whether it's a physician) and the media is complicit in using this poor little girl to drive a narrative.

Sounds to me like the referring physician punted the problem pregnancy, and then someone went public for political reasons.
If a ten year-old delivers, I think that would be the youngest ever in the U.S.

Certainly the modal case in my social class was as I describe. But whatever the numbers might be, the point is that it is incorrect to assume X fewer abortions will add X kids to the population in the medium term.
Often times it just swaps an unwanted pregnancy for a later, desired one.

Now you have more GOP elected officials saying that an under-12 young girl who became impregnated from rape would not be allowed to voluntarily terminate their pregnancies:
Among those named are Asa Hutchinson (Gov. Arkansas), Philip Gunn (Speaker of the House in Mississippi), Kristi Noem (Gov. South Dakota).

“[E]very single life — every single life is precious,” Noem said. “This tragedy is horrific. I can’t even imagine. I have never had anybody in my family or myself gone through anything like this. I can’t even imagine. But, in South Dakota, the law today is that the abortions are illegal, except to save the life of the mother.”
The governor added, “What I would say is, I don’t believe a tragic situation should be perpetuated by another tragedy.”
Circling back to our recent coverage, if nothing else, there’s an unmistakable consistency to such a position: Terminating an unwanted pregnancy is wrong, the argument goes, regardless of circumstances. If that means the government will force raped 10-year-old children to proceed with unwanted pregnancies, so be it.
The question for the rest of the public is whether to vote for policymakers who espouse such a position.
Yeah, that's how that works.

Asa is dead meat in Arkansas.
