I saw that, but I didn't want to rub it in.

Yes, and most if not all of the countries at the top of that list would almost certainly have been referred to by an erudite and sophisticated former POTUS in scatological terms.

Whether you view this as a success or not is of course up to you.

      I was only joking

        Freedom has a price.

Seriously, take certain neighborhoods out of the stats and things would look much, much different.

Well, yeah, if you only count the areas without gun violence, then there isn't going to be a lot of recorded gun violence.

Based on that logic, we could remove the top 15 nations from the list, and put the US as number 1!

BTW I am not ashamed to admit I googled "where is Eswatini". Figured it sounded like a Star Wars planet.

Yes, but then the violence is not a societal problem, but a very bad problem for slim sections of society.

If you're going to compare the two countries, you probably need to remove UK gang violence from the equation, too. Amazingly enough, Britain isn't one large homogenous mix either.

Did you know that the US suicide rate is roughly double that of the UK? Which is going some if you consider the food and the weather.

Yes. Myself. I ran the numbers once. Good luck finding an actual study.

I should make one correction, I didn’t remove black on black gang violence, I normalized it against the average.

Definitely a cultural thing. I agree with @Doctor-Phibes The countries listed above the US in the death rate by guns are not by anyones idea a well adjusted first world country. Not sure that is the countries I would want to be associated in that regard.

Take a look at the countries which are at the bottom of the list

                                Spain
                                Austria
                                Switzerland
                                Germany
                                Norway
                                Singapore
                                (through to)
                                Japan

Side note: On average, about 40+ people in the US are died EVERY DAY because of gun violence. In Japan, there were 40 deaths due to gun violence over 8 YEARS!!

I can say with confidence that the people of Japan do not feel less safe because they cannot walk around with a gun.

Definitely a cultural thing. I agree with @Doctor-Phibes The countries listed above the US in the death rate by guns are not by anyones idea a well adjusted first world country. Not sure that is the countries I would want to be associated in that regard.

They kill with their hands, try taking them away, it will be just like the taking away guns here.

And I can say with confidence that the people of Japan do not for a second think Japan is America. I can also say with confidence that the Japanese people who live in America DO understand the need for guns, and many of them own at least one. Now - since you're citing cherry picked statistics with such confidence, look up how many people are saved every day in America because they or someone nearby had a gun.

Oh - I checked your numbers... the average number of people who die every day due to gun violence is 30, not 40. Of those, 28 are the criminals who started it, not legal gun owners with permits to carry. So around 2 or 3 innocent bystanders get killed by a handgun per day. That is a long.... LONG way from 40.....

On the other hand, the number of people who use guns in self defense is just under 1.6 million. This equates to around 2,800 people per day who use guns for self defense. Of those, roughly 162,000 say they would definitely have been killed had the not had a gun on them. That is an average of 444 people per day whose lives were saved because they were carrying a handgun.

@Larry As I said, it is cultural.

Why do you think that people in Japan feel very very safe even though nobody carries a gun?
