One common misconception floating around the English language is the notion that all Latin-derived nouns that end in the suffix -us in the singular should end in -i when they are plural. And there is, in fact, a plethora of such -i Latin plurals in English: witness oculus (a word for an oval window or for a circular opening at the top of a dome) and its plural oculi, or the more common alumnus/alumni and stimulus/stimuli.

Words from Latin Without '-i' Plurals
However, there are quite a few Latin nouns that do not have an -i plural even in their original language that have become naturalized in the English language. In Latin, these nouns belong to a group in which the singular and plural were spelled alike. A sampling of such words is prospectus, status, and apparatus. None of those words have an -i plural. In English, the plural of prospectus is Anglicized to prospectuses and that of status to statuses. Apparatus, though, has the regular English plural apparatuses but also retains in some use the Latin plural apparatus..

You really think that's all it's gonna be?

I think so. There will be protests until they run out of avocado toast then will go home realizing the protest (like nearly all protests) doesn't change anything.

Aqua is probably right. Reddit/DC sentiment is to expect major protests. Again, not sure what they’ll accomplish other than being cathartic for the “losing side”…

Funny how the pro-choice crowd was fine with the ruling in 1974 but now protests when it doesn’t go their way. Meanwhile, pro-life folks have been dealing with being on the losing side for about the last 50 years.

That being said, I think it’s very appropriate for this type of issue to be legislated at the state level. Its a good example of why we have states in the first place.

Also, Amber Heard is like “yessss, I’m no longer trending”.

Not so much as a hint of outrage at the leak from CNN. Of course they realize the leaker was motivated by leftist tribal righteousness, so it’ll be move along, nothing to see here, regarding the leak itself. All the outrage will be over the decision. Pity.

It will be interesting to see the electoral effects. With Roe/Casey in place, the GOP has tried to pass abortion-limiting laws that poll pretty well, like parental notification and late term stuff.

Without Roe we’ll see a lot of total bans, maybe including rape and incest. Those aren’t broadly popular. It will be interesting to watch.

Maybe it will get rid of the horrible Roe-skirting laws like in Texas and soon to be Oklahoma.

And, IMO, those are not unreasonable restrictions/requirements. Remember that only about 4 countries have abortion permitted as late into the pregnancy as the United States. Most countries draw the line at 12-14 weeks, iirc.

They're popular in a very vocal minority, and having that kind of a megaphone has an effect. But, as you say, not "broadly," and that's good.

Don't like it, from either side. It's a blatant political move and in today's climate, we need less politics from the court, not more.

Roe was bad law and should have been struck down years ago. But let people read the decision when it comes out, and then move forward.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.
