Two yokes in one egg would be a nice surprise.
Black substance inside a fresh egg can be traumatizing.

I used to get the extra large eggs at TJs. Pretty much each carton would have 3-4 double-yolk eggs.

    Only non-witches get due process.

@bachophile Sorry, I simply don't remember. The shock, you know.

@Klaus That's exactly right, Klaus. It was truly the stuff of nightmares.

You were shocked because it is such a rare event. Consider how many eggs you had to crack to find that one. Truly a testament to our food system.

Was cracking an egg into the pan to scramble. The shell parted to reveal a black interior, the most impenetrably blackest black you ever saw, that oozed into the pan like some kind of slow evil molasses, except very black. I actually jumped back a step. And shouted bad words.

Never saw anything like it in my life.

                It was horrid.

I cleaned everything up, then Googled this horror. Turns out it was an infected egg, either fungal or bacterial, laid by an infected chicken, probably in the oviduct.

I have yet to crack open another egg. This is going to take some recovery time. (I know it's unlikely there's another infected egg in the same carton, but still.)

                  True.

I've seen one in my life and that's because the eggs were so incredibly beyond expired. And I cannot describe to you the smell.

                  Please love yourself.

In my opinion, racism is wrong. So many of us refuse to speak up about it. But personally, I will not be afraid. I will speak truth to power. Racism is wrong.

I would take a picture, and take the rest of the carton back to the market.

I'm sure they would want to know that there's an infected chicken laying infected eggs somewhere out there.

Right because that's absolutely not where you can expect to find Patient Zero. Might as well hit up the local ERs for laughs, too.

Raise chickens. Gather own eggs. You can freeze them as scrambled eggs for cooking or eating...Just freeze in ice cube trays, pop them out and store in ziploc bags in the freezer. Use in a couple of months.

                          Or water glass them...

I think that it is interesting that pretty much everywhere other than the US, eggs are not in the refrigerator.

US eggs are washed (I think) and that washes off the protective layer so that you have to refrigerate them after that.
