I think either they didn’t get a good look because of the gas mask or they know he’s black or Hispanic and don’t want to say.
If they knew he was white, we’d know.

Mayor of New York just referred to him as a "dark-skinned male."

So I’m on the go and haven’t seen the details, but did the shooter do this IN a train car? Or only on the platform when it stopped?

Investigators believe they know who he is, having identified the suspect after finding a credit card at the scene that was also used to rent the U-Haul cargo van, two law enforcement sources told CNN.
A federal law enforcement source told Newsweek the suspect was the previously known to the FBI, having been entered into the Guardian Lead system in New Mexico.
The system is the FBI's way of coordinating information from other law enforcement partners about potential terrorism-related threats and suspicious activity reports.
He was cleared after multiple interviews in 2019.

They chose not to specify the broad societal and racial targets of this hatred, so I guess they don't fit political narratives. Well, in fairness, there is no politically useful narrative that starts with a POC hating anybody for any reason.
