The Academy bans Will Smith from attending the Ceremonies for 10 years. Smith gets to keep all awards already earned, and continues to be eligible for future nominations and future awards.

The Oscars present a convenient ambush spot for out of line comedians unfairly attacking our most honored celebrities, but it is hardly the only venue where comedians are exposed. I would caution those "jokesters" to allow discretion to be the better part of valor, and stop making fun of famous people. It is simply not worth it. And let's be honest - it is simply never funny to bully celebrities with hurtful words.

There is no doubt that she is a nightmare.

That video is horrible. You just know that she is worse in private.

What's also just plain weird is the fact that this was recorded.
Would anyone you know have a conversation like that with your spouse and freaking RECORD IT?

Not weird at all. Recording it was the point.

A year later:
Here's Why Chris Rock Deserved That Slap
Though it’s clear a lot of folks still think that the star should be able to joke about whoever (sic) he wants, it seems like they’re ok with it because he is known for going after Black women.
You see, it's all about racism. Never mind that the guy who got hit was black, he deserved it. Words have consequences and the consequences should be violence.

Just imagine if a white guy had slapped Rock. Holy crap, it would have been a seismic event in American culture, and lefties would be proudly inconvincible that it wasn't about race.
But it must be said, that no white actor would have conceived of slapping Rock. Not because there's a difference between white actors and Smith, but because the white actors would understand what they have to lose, while Smith correctly understood he didn't have those same stakes.

TNCR loved it when Rock was slapped, not because we're racist, but because we hate stand up comics.

However the slap as a comic device is not hated.
Moe Howard for example

A quick Google of the woman who wrote that would indicate that she spends her entire life writing, talking and presumably thinking about race. She must be a riot at parties. Sorry, I didn’t mean to say riot.

She wouldn't pursue that sort of writing if it wasn't socially advantageous. I'm sure she does just fine at parties.
