Moscow has expended nearly two-thirds of its ammunition reserves
The Russian offensive in Ukraine has stalled as Moscow has expended nearly two-thirds of its ammunition reserves, head of Estonian military intelligence Margo Grosberg told Estonian public broadcaster ERR on Nov. 25.
“The Russian Federation has used up about two-thirds of the ammunition it has, or slightly less than that,” Grosberg said.

According to him, waning ammunition stocks explain a decrease in the offensive activity of Russian troops. He added that "for limited operations and with economical use of ammunition, Russia will have enough for about a month."Estonian intelligence believes that Russia is now stockpiling ammunition – in preparation for a renewed offensive in Spring 2023.
Grosberg also noted that Russia is trying to purchase missiles and drones from Iran and North Korea, and is exporting ammunition from Belarus.
CNN earlier reported that the Iranian authorities also intend to supply the Kremlin regime with 1,000 short-range surface-to-surface ballistic missiles for the war against Ukraine.

He's not going to give it up without something where he can claim victory. If we want Russia out of Ukraine and Crimea, it's going to be a long slog. However painful, from an American perspective I think it's worthwhile to do so. Ukrainians may well have a different opinion.

No argument from me. If Ukrainians can continue hold out this winter despite ongoing Russian destruction of their energy infrastructure, they will prevail militarily. As for Russia it wins by losing. To quote Timothy Snyder:
“Russia wins by losing. Russia really needs to lose this war, and to lose it decisively,” he said. “The whole colonial move towards Ukraine is a distraction, a substitute for the internal changes which Russia really has to make.”

Secret modifications: https://english.nv.ua/nation/us-has-modified-himars-to-prevent-ukraine-from-striking-russian-territory-news-50288873.html
“The United States secretly modified the advanced HIMARS rocket launchers it gave Ukraine so they can’t be used to fire long-range missiles into Russia – a precaution the Biden administration says is necessary to reduce the risk of a wider war with Moscow,” WSJ writes.

No problem. We’ll just modify and improve on readily available old Soviet technology to strike those airbases deep inside Russia:

What ever you do, don’t mention the war……
Ahead of the meeting, the Kremlin reportedly urged members of the Human Rights Council “not to upset” Putin with thorny questions about the war in Ukraine, independent news outlet Verstka said.
Members of the body were also reportedly urged to avoid the “toxic” issue of Russian troop deaths in Ukraine.
I note though that he is beginning to turn down nuclear rhetoric. Perhaps Chairman Xi had a little phone discussion with him.
