    What years were those?

    You remember these conversations.

To be fair, as far as medical hypotheses go, Trump's idea is not completely crazy. Or at least it wouldn't be if this were still 1998.

That year, a well-respected journal published a paper by researcher Andrew Wakefield and 12 of his colleagues linking a standard measles, mumps and rubella vaccine to autism. Despite its tiny sample size of 12 and its speculative conclusions, the study was publicized far and wide -- launching a global movement involving celebrities like Jenny McCarthy, Jim Carrey (and of course Trump) who warned parents to stop vaccinating their children. The result was what public health officials reported was a dangerous drop in MMR vaccinations.

Well, Trump has "followed the science." His place in the triumvirate has been assumed by Robert Kennedy Jr.

@89th my bad, I should have been more specific.

During what years was Trump against the COVID vaccine?

I understand that, and that's why I rephrased my question.

Did he ever hold anti-vax view wrt COVID?

“I’m totally in favor of vaccines, but the way we give them now probably give kids autism”

                    Fair paraphrase?

More fair would be, we don't know everything there is to know about vaccines and there has been one case where there were apparently unpleasant side-effects.

"probably" gives autism, that is really out of line as a paraphrase

So you’re saying he wants to change the vax protocols to prevent autism because an N=1 anecdote?

This is the problem, that we are even discussing what Trump suggested regarding vaccines. Nearly every business entity that Trump has created has failed and gone bankrupt. And that is the business industry...something Trump is an expert it. Now let's talk the medical industry, something Trump knows nothing about but is given a national stage and uses it to say, "I'm all in favor for vaccines, but let me tell you the story of a beautiful healthy baby who had a vaccine and then BOOM.... autistic." Yeah, let's defend this guy's medical opinion.

There is no problem finding lists of foolish things said by Mr. Trump.

I only jumped in to discuss this specific event and the accompanying question about the paraphrase.

I am not here to justify Mr. Trump's life.

Yep, and Trump wasn't the only one on that train 10 or 20 years ago. You only know what you know when you know it.

@89th my bad, I should have been more specific.

During what years was Trump against the COVID vaccine?

In June of this year he said we're lucky to have the vaccine but vaccines for young people needs to stop. In May last year he said it would be helpful to have the vaccine, but that the coronavirus will probably just go away on its own. He also was the only ex-president not to appear in a pro-vaccine public service message. Just recently (in Sept?) he told his supporters he probably won't get the booster shot. As seen in the first post of this thread, he did end up getting it.

As with most topics, Trump tries to have it both ways... he is for vaccines, but also they can cause autism. He is for the covid vaccine, but it may not be necessary. He thinks it's good to get it, but people should be free to choose not to (I agree with that btw). He probably wont get it, but then he ends up getting it. So as I said initially... he gets partial credit for planting the seed of doubt among many who are currently anti-vax.

Give the quote and context for stopping vaccines for young oeople.

In the case of COVID going away, that's the general path of many pandemics.

OMG, he didn't appear in a vaccine commercial? Quelle horreur!

Son, you're trying to fling enough mud, so some of it sticks. It is starting to look desperate...

@jolly All I said is he planted seeds of doubt (an opinion), he has made anti-vax statements (accurate), and when asked about COVID vax I replied with the comments that have planted the seeds of doubt among some (accurate). No mud here, just an opinion that references facts for context.
