In some circumstances it's quite useful to have a way to disable automatic formatting etc. (called "quotation" in CS lingo), and that's what the backtick is for.
!!! warning [Warning]: Nerd alert: The following text isn't suitable for normal humans. Caution advised.
For instance, let's say you want to explain how to write a word in italics. Using backticks, I can write that
_foo_
produces foo. I produced_foo_
by writing`_foo_`
. Your next question might be how to produce`_foo_`
. You do that by writing`` `_foo_` ``

Oh that dip is just when @jon-nyc said he was going to post his 1994 spring break beach photos.
Florida Keys with my girlfriend Monica and her mother, who we brought along to cheer up as she was newly divorced. I rented a convertible.
I was already working, but as Monica was in her 3rd year of law school it was in fact her spring break.

Jon, your early days pictures always look like SR Formica artwork.

Do you know what will save us from an evil group taking over the internet?
It's not security mechanisms, or encryption, or passwords. It's software interoperability, or rather, the lack thereof. It's just too damn hard and too much work to make everything fit together.

Thanks for your hard work, @klaus.

Just a quick note, though not sure if anything can be done.
@George-K mentioning Just Me made me think of it.
If you go to the old forum board, and are not logged in, there is a notice that the board has moved, but does not give any information on where to it has moved. Is there any chance of adding the link to this new forum board in that message? I know that the odds are very small that an "old" forum person will check out the old board having forgotten their log in information, but it may happen. And they would never know where the new board is.

The very top pinned thread has it

But if you are not logged in, you cannot see any of the threads.
The picture above is if I go to that website without logging in. You cannot access anything without logging in.
I was thinking that someone may remember the website, but will have forgotten their log in information. Very slim chance, I do know probably.
