Alabama man dies after being turned away from 43 hospitals as covid packs ICUs
    …
Now, in DeMonia’s obituary, his family is urging those who remain unvaccinated to get immunized to help hospitals that have been pushed to their limits and struggling to treat emergencies not related to the pandemic.
    …
When the time came to write the obituary, Raven DeMonia said, her mother wanted to add the line about vaccination as part of their remembrance. The move was similar to that of others across the country whose loved ones have died because of the resurgent virus or the toll it has taken on hospitals.

Yep, but this is the news, so the odd or salacious sells. Yes, we've had a bed problem. But it's as much a staffing problem as a bed problem. It's also a service type problem.

Case in point....I was doing my PRN gig yesterday and we had a guy present with a CKMB of 5.1 and an elevated Troponin I. The hospital is meat and potatoes, we don't crack chests. We've got beds, but not the right kind.

So, they have to start working the phones, seeing where they can send this guy. After getting turned down by a half-dozen hospitals, they finally find a bed. The nurse walks out to talk to the family about where he is being transferred, while the doc informs the patient and wraps up the transfer protocol. Acadian sets a bird on the pad in thirty minutes, patient is loaded and he choppers off.

@jolly how far away did they have to take him? Were they planning an angioplasty, or just observation?

LF makes a pretty good point...At this point, why haven't we reconfigured resources? Some hospitals have, but some haven't. Why haven't we trained more ICU nurses? Why haven't we addressed the travelers problem? Why haven't we done a better job of intrastate and interstate transfer?

Biden is talking about ramping up testing even more...Where are the kits coming from? My little pea patch hasn't been able to do a COVID antibody test in over a week - no juice available. And if China farts, the majority of rapid antigen kits will disappear overnight, because we haven't spread out production. Same song about pharmaceuticals.

We've got a lot of problems that need addressing. I'm just afraid that's not going to happen...

Shreveport. I'm guessing 150 miles as the crow flies. Angioplasty or CABG.

There is a solution already. If people don’t want it do you really expect a different one available? Is that really your expectation?

Biden said he was invoking the Defense Production Act for the kits and monoclonals. We will see how that goes. He has made a whole lot of promises he hopes he doesn't get held accountable for. My guess is they figured Delta would fizzle out and all this would look good. It won't.

COVID is endemic, just ask Israel. You can vaccinate everybody and it's going to morph. Maybe not as deadly, but a very serious disease.

We better have the tools in place to live with it.

Blame the unvaccinated, blame the anti-vaccination loud mouths on air and online.

I'm fucking tired of this "Own it" horseshit. How about we put the scoreboards away and find a way for fewer people die, how about that.

One of the ways is to tell the unvaccinated and the anti-vaccination loudmouths that this is one of the consequences of their choices and their actions.

So I say again, blame the unvaccinated, blame the anti-vaccination loud mouths, on air and online.

I have been vaccinated. My wife on the other hand, has not been vaccinated. Nor will she be vaccinated in the future. That's because she has already nearly died from covid, and her doctor says she does not need to be vaccinated. I can afford extremely good doctors. I love my wife more than life itself, and I will spare no expense when it comes to her. Are you going to call her an unvaccinated loudmouth and blame her for something? How about the millions of people just like her?

You are a fool, Ax. You spout whatever the democrat talking points are at the time, never think for yourself. And just like you ignore those with natural immunity, you also ignore the fact that many people object to government forcing things on them, and that IS a valid argument that should be respected.

But nooo, your party has told you what to think, and what to mock or ignore. Let me give you one reason those who don't like government forcing them to do things are justified. When a leader of a free nation talks to the press, he takes questions afterwards. That's because the PEOPLE are in charge, not him. When a dictator talks to the press, he says what he has to say and then leaves. No questions. Unless he wants certain questions asked, in which case he picks the reporters he will allow to speak, and gives them the questions they are required to ask. Biden fits the description of a dictator. The only thing standing in his way is that pesky Constitution. You know - the document that stops government from being able to force you to do something that has been mandated by government.

Someone has to protect that. If they don't, evil political parties (democrats) aided and abetted by simple minded fools like you will trample that part of our freedoms. Educate the public, show them why they should get vaccinated, then respect their right to choose. But the instant some little leftwing prick like you starts telling me a HAVE to do something, it makes me not want to do it.

As aqua said, stop with the political bull shit and help solve the problem.

I have been vaccinated. My wife on the other hand, has not been vaccinated. Now will she be vaccinated in the future.

Out of interest, Larry - did her doctor suggest there could be risks associated with her getting the vaccine after she got so sick, or was it rather he didn't feel there was a need as she was going to have natural immunity? This isn't a trick question, if the doctor tells her she doesn't need vaccinating, who am I to argue?

                              I was only joking

There is a solution already. If people don’t want it do you really expect a different one available? Is that really your expectation?

The others in the corral are mules. Keep selling them there are buyers.

Remember too Trump got vaccinated after having Covid and receiving Regeneron. When Regeneron is shown to keep people out the hospital I will be 100% behind it- to be clear I believe it is very effective in lowering the chances of death and shortening hospital length of stay.

It’s already been shown to keep people out of the hospital. 70% effectiveness against severe Covid, I believe. Why wouldn’t you be 100% for any treatment that helps?

I guess I wasn’t clear enough. I am absolutely for any effective treatment, it is core to getting through the pandemic. I am not for it as an alternative to a vaccine at this point. Heck if Ivermectin, as cheap as it is prevented hospitalizations I would say it was better than the vaccine and let’s just put in the water.

Regeneron is not the vaccine. Don't you understand, you ignorant rube, the vaccine is the only thing that works. It is the ultimate goal, the pinnacle, the nirvana of COVID prevention. Just the mention of the word "vaccine", causes strong men to blanch, women to faint and corona virus to melt.

Treatments don't matter. Mitigation doesn't matter. Mutations that negate the current vaccine don't matter.

And God help you if you have natural immunity, which seems to work in every contagious disease, except this one, according to some people. It doesn't matter. Ignore those damn lymphocytes and macrophages.

                                        It's the vaccine, stupid.

The vaccine is the only thing that will allow us to pull the covers off of our head and don our masks before heading out to our almost normal life. Which is great. As long as you don't stand any closer than six feet to someone, you don't dare remove your mask in public, or nobody ever sings again...Superspreader events, you know.

For the vaccine shall make us safe and we shall live under its protective umbrella for evermore, leading disease-free and worry-free lives.

                                        Until it doesn't work.

Those who cheered as J-6 American prisoners were locked in solitary for 18 months without trial, now suddenly fight tooth and nail for foreign terrorists’ "due process". — Buck Sexton

I don't know if this is happening in the USA but it is becoming all too common here across Canada:

My only real concern with anti-vax and libertarian crowd here is that they are organizing protests at acute care hospitals and deliberately impeding or in a few cases, block access to those hospitals for ambulances and health care workers including doctors and nurses. Presently the acute care hospitals in this province are at the breaking point thanks in part to our inept provincial government's policy towards public health in general and the self styled libertarians who oppose not only vaccines but any and all public health measures aimed toward mitigating the spread of the virus.

In my opinion, if these people want to protest they are welcome to protest at the legislature building or the provincial Ministry of Health buildings scattered throughout the province. On the other hand, I would fully support the full weight of the federal government to come down via an Order in Council and/or emergency legislation under the Criminal Code to prohibit such demonstrations at hospitals and the ongoing harassment of over worked health care workers trying to their job.

                                          Elbows up!
