Screw 'em.
Most decorating trends are just that - trends. It's some way for people to sell you something new to replace something fully functional.

"Hell is full of potpourri." LOL.
This article provided me with many "now-that-you-mention-it" moments. Yes, I agree these trends need to stay back there -- especially tropical prints, lace curtains, metal wall sculptures, beaded curtains, and doilies.
I confess to a plastic tablecloth, and my jury is out on beaded lampshades. Approached with care -- okay, great care -- they could still have a place in modern times.

Also, the same types of people now writing that magazine are the ones who suggested many of these monstrosities in the first place.

Funny, that, no?

The house we moved into has 3 of those things (mainly the brass fixtures, metal wall art, and some ridiculously large heavy curtains on the main living room window), we are slowly updating it all. We are personally guilty of zero of those items on the list, but I'm sure if we check again in 20 years...
And @George-K I'm disappointed you don't have a massive painting of the Mrs. above your fireplace!

Exactly. Everything listed in that article will come back at some point.

I'm not going to take an article with ads about "how to unclog toilet" with secret powders as a voice of authority about anything, let alone what to do with one's home.

There's another article entitled "How to connect with your spirit animal". I think I'll pass.

How about "How To Connect With Your Spirit Animal Using Secret Powders"?

It's probably bath salts, which I would guess the article writers do know a thing or two about.

We inherited butcher block countertops. Still have them and they work. No reason to replace.
We also inherited paneling in the entry and living rooms. Only one wall in the living room. It was stained and finished on-site in the early 1950s. I think it looks just fine.
None of the other stuff.

Our house is over 120 years old. Their remarks about making a house "look old" made me laugh.
Ours is over 70 years old. It has small bathrooms. Except, every bedroom has one. lol
Who needs a giant room to do those activities anyway? Waste of space IMO.
