At this point, what Trump said a year ago - and note, Trump has always touted a vaccine - doesn't have a lot of effect on people's decision to vaccinate or not.
Let me point out that a lot of rural America, for very good reason, does not trust the national media at all. They look at the VAERS numbers, they know people their age who have had COVID or they live in areas that are rural enough that COVID is pretty scarce.
So, this thirty-something oil field hand or construction worker is weighing his chances...If I get COVID, what are my chances of recovery? What are the ill effects of the shot? What is this I'm hearing about catching COVID after the shot? Did y'all hear we have to have a booster every year with this shot?
So, your Madison Avenue ad campaign ain't gonna do buttkiss at this point. LuFin's Dad is absolutely correct...You want to vaccinate people in the hinterlands? You put that vaccine in local clinics and doctor's offices. Let people they trust talk to them about vaccination. You just might get more of them to get the shot.
But one thing I do know...If you want to beat them over the head with how ignorant they are and how you are going to make them get vaccinated...Well, as Scooby would say, "Rotsa ruck!".
Speaking of...I heard a guy from AAFP last week on the radio speaking on behalf of family practice guys...They were incensed that they could give a flu shot, a pneumonia shot or various other vaccinations, but the government wouldn't let them give a COVID shot.
LuFin's Dad is right...You want to vaccinate more people, let their family docs do it...

Am I alone in thinking there are probably a fair number of untested and unreported breakthrough cases?

I donāt know where you get your number but 0.3% is likely the right number.
People are in fact dying needlessly now in the US because they refuse vaccination. They listened to the wrong people, itās is truly a shame.

If 97% of cases are coming from people that havenāt gottenāthe shotā as the headline proclaims, then the remainder have. Itās pretty simple math. You described the āsuper spreader eventā among vaccinated people, yourself.

In January Bidenās 100MM shots in 100 days plan was criticized for being precisely the same as Trumps. Then the administration accelerated it and crushed that goal. Now they want to say the accelerated plan was Trumps too? Seems like if that were true the messaging in January would have been different, no?

Your understanding of the part about the unvaccinated patients of COVID-19 being "21 times more likely to be hospitalized" than the their vaccinated cohort may be at fault.
It does not mean there are 21 times more unvaccinated patients of COVID-19 being hospitalized than vaccinated COVID-19 patients. It means that the fraction of unvaccinated COVID-19 patients being hospitalized is 21 times higher than the fraction of vaccinated COVID-19 patients being hospitalized.
It does not mean that, for every one vaccinated COVID-19 patient hospitalized there are 21 unvaccinated COVID-19 patients being hospitalized. It means that, if there are 1 patient out of 100 vaccinated COVID-19 patients get hospitalized, then there are 21 patients out of 100 unvaccinated COVID-19 patients get hospitalized.

High death tolls are good motivation.
Would be interesting to take a look at vaccination rates by race. At least down here, it seems like the black community has a better vaccination rate, especially in urban areas.
